He reportedly bought the rifle an hour or so before the shootings.
Is there no waiting period in Oklahoma?

Nope. In many States you can drive to the gun store and be back out the door with a new firearm in an hour or less. This is true of much of the West, Mid-West and South.

In most states the only waiting period is if you get delayed by the FBI background check. If they fail to get back to the firearms dealer within three days, the transaction goes through.

I thought of that too. I can walk out same day with a gun in SC, but only because I have a Concealed Carry Permit. It requires a day-long class and an extensive background check that persists.
Otherwise, I think the waiting period is non-negotiable. I wonder if he was had a CCP.

No waiting period in Idaho. I fill out the 4473 and present my driver's license and CCW. The FFL fills in the firearm specific info on the 4473. I pay with my debit card. All done. Typically 15 minutes start to finish. A waiting period makes zero sense for a person who has a safe full of firearms. It's just harassment.
