School shootings show our leaders, not Americans, are the moral failures
NY Post ^ | 2 June 2022 | Glenn H Reynolds

It’s a standard pattern. After a horror like the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, pundits, journalists and politicians come forward to say that the event is evidence of some deep moral failure, a flaw in America’s soul. Predictably enough, of course, they then preach that salvation can only come by doing what they want.

But when the facts come in, it invariably turns out that the tragedy doesn’t stem from a spiritual failing in America but rather from the fact that some (most?) of our institutions are run by creeps, crooks and incompetents.

We’ve learned that a door was propped open or left unlocked at Robb Elementary School (the story keeps changing on what exactly happened), allowing the shooter to enter the building.

We’ve also discovered the Uvalde police — despite well-established doctrine that a mass shooter must be confronted immediately by whoever is at hand — hung back for nearly an hour while children were murdered inside. We’ve seen chilling timelines showing repeated cellphone calls from students trapped inside, wondering why no one was coming to help.

We are basically held hostage and enslaved for taxes by a tyrannical government staying in business for itself.

Identity politics (including affirmative action, gender inclusiveness, CRT, etc . . ) are all meant to DIVIDE us and make us angry and jealous and suspicious of each other. throw in a scandemic, shutdown, lockdown, high inflation and embroiling us into a WW3 scenario and people become agitated. The real fun will begin when the food shortages kick in. Big city riots will be an everyday occurrence.

Secure the damn buildings.

Have a guard for the morning arrival and when they get out.

< The entrance...door ahead and behind so you can be seen on a monitor. It's used in thousands of buildings. You get buzzed in.

My bank has one and all the new apartment buildings have these type of entrances.

Those who love liberty never commit mass shootings.

It’s a tautology.

Returning to a nation that loves liberty is the only way we get out of this mess.

when examining those ages 15-19. An overwhelming 83-percent of the firearm-related deaths that occur in the 1-19 age group happen among the juveniles and young adults ages 15-19. This disparity shouldn’t be surprising. The 15-19 cohort is far more often engaged in the type of street crime that can give rise to firearm-related violence

If our elected officials were at all serious about protecting schools, the very first thing they would do is to focus on locking the doors.

If they are ONLY focused on political power and fundraising they would focus on guns, like Brandon and his party.

It’s really that simple and that obvious.

I disagree. The left blames guns, some conservatives blame government. The people responsible are the ones doing the shooting. All government does with any issue is legislate symptoms, which never solves the problem and actually perpetuates it. It is failure at the most basic levels and we only be resolved there.

I cringe at hardening the schools. They are literally prisons. Still there is broad agreement to make them more like prisons.

So what if the malcontent chooses a different time, like bus-loading?

And not to say the leaders aren’t part of the problem, but so is a failure to identify and control some root causes. Broken and single parent families, psycotropic drugs, “everybody gets a trophy” even if they are killing animals and otherwise suggesting or doing threats to others.

“Stop all bullying” is a recipe for failure too. Not defending bullying, but there are other forms of ridicule just as harmful. Ban shunning! Not going to happen, it’s part of what humans are. We shun, we ridicule, we engage in all sorts of talk and conduct to get our way. This line drawing with absolutes is just not going to happen in the real world, but the leaders pretend it will.

I’d make schools open and gun-preferred zone, like most of the public spaces are. Schools aren’t special.

liberals defunded the police, let all the criminals out of jail, closed all the mental facilities and declared all the insane people sane.

Then acted SHOCKED when bad things happen!

Gangster culture is a real thing. It’s celebrated in some communities.

Noticing this is racist.
