Here are a couple of names that we haven’t seen in the headlines for a while. Urooj Rahman and Colinford Mattis are the two (former) New York City lawyers who constructed Molotov cocktails and firebombed a police vehicle during the summer of love back in 2020. They were identified almost immediately and arrested, leading to a series of plea deals that were announced and then rejected or withdrawn. The two could have been facing 30 years in prison or even life sentences under domestic terrorism charges. But this week they both entered a guilty plea (again) and will now very likely face far less time behind bars than had been originally anticipated.
In the end, the court accepted guilty pleas from each of the defendants on a single charge of conspiracy to construct an explosive device. The maximum sentence for that is just five years but prosecutors don’t expect them to receive more than one to two years and a fine. They will also be permanently disbarred in New York.
...
From the beginning, the media has played up the image of the bomb makers, describing them as “young and idealistic.” If this case had gone to trial, the press would no doubt continue doing it, claiming that the two were being “persecuted” by a racist system or whatever.

At least they didn’t show up at a school board meeting and complain about something - people who do that are a clear and present danger and not the “idealistic” heroes who throw fire bombs at police cars. /s
The disbar is permanent in New York. I wonder if they will be allowed to practice law in a few years in New York? Or maybe in some other state? Come to California! We have plenty of terrorist lawyers here! A lot of them in the government!
They’ll be welcomed somewhere in a DC or Seattle firm, I’m thinking.
They will get less time than many of the Capitol protesters.
gasoline control
rag control
lighter control
I have no doubt that government officials like this would welcome the mass murder of conservatives.
Only thing holding them bach is the Second Amendment.
These were just goofy kids firebombing police cars and police officers. It isn’t like the Insurrectionists who took selfies inside the Capital.
If these crazy kids had taken selfies they would be locked up for life.
That's OK. They can probably get admitted in Oregon or California. I'd offer Illinois as an option but even Michelle managed to lose her license there (for reasons that have never appeared in the state controled media.)
???? “kids” ????
Adults!!
“don’t expect them to receive more than one to two years and a fine”
ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS, DISGUSTING AND CRIMINAL!! We have people who did NOTHING on Jan.6th doing more time than that, and these two scumbags tried to murder police officers by burning them alive!! I am so sick of this double standard crap. I wonder if the cops who were targeted can sue these bastards.
There are so many comments on this page, suggesting that these two terrorists should try to get licensed to practice law in some other Blue State (California, Oregon, and Illinois are mentioned).
Nonsense.
Both of them have long, brilliant, lucrative careers ahead of them, bouncing back and forth between the Democratic Party and the so-called “news media” like a couple of ping pong balls.
Ask George Stephanopoulos, David Axelrod, Ana Navarro, Jen Psaki, or any one of the other 100+ lunatics from the left-wing fringe who are doing exactly the same thing, and making six- or seven-figure incomes doing it.
This is why they said disbarred in New York.
They aren’t disbarred anywhere else. They will have to pass bar exams in other states but that will be allowed.
.....marxist liberal prosecutors, marxist liberal defendants, marxist liberal judge, marxist liberal citizens, marxist liberal legislature. What a surprise.
I imagine the New York Bar is composed 100% of marxist liberal democrat’s too so I doubt they will remain disbarred in New York for long if at all.
Sometimes I think that some sarcasm is so obvious that even a parrot could figure it out, and then I read posts like this and I realize that one can never use a sarcasm tag too many times...
Plea bargaining a 30 year ride down to one and a disbarment is pretty slick lawyering, but it isn’t justice. There’s no guarantee they’ll even get that.
A felony conviction disqualifies sitting for the bar exam in most states.
Well, they weren’t remotely tied to Trump.
Correction you can take the exam but must still pass a background check to be licensed.
Fixed.
