UK to send first long-range missiles to Ukraine despite Russia's threat

British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace announced that the UK will send its first long-range missiles to Ukraine despite a threat by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the West against the delivery of these weapons to Kiev.

In a statement late Sunday, Wallace said: "As Russia's tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine. These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will enable our Ukrainian friends to better protect themselves against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin's forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities."

He said that the UK is supplying "vital weapons they (Ukrainians) need to defend their country from unprovoked invasion", the BBC reported.

The UK's multiple launch rocket system can fire 12 surface-to-surface missiles within a minute and can strike targets within 80 km with pinpoint accuracy.

It is similar to the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) which the US is sending to Ukraine "following receipt of guarantees they would be used for defensive purposes only and not to strike targets inside Russia", the BBC report said...

Facile? Hardly. It’s a rather complex rocket system which can effectively deliver ground launched cluster munitions 55 miles away. Given the large impact zone it is a highly effective counter-battery weapon. IMO the M270 SPLL is a bit over kill. The HIMARS will prove more effective in the long run due to its lower maintenance requirement.

Facile claim!

Get back to us after the first few hundred Russian soldiers have been blown to Kingdom Come using these!

machinery yet to be demonstrated…

As of now, I’m right, and you’re both anticipating.

Yet to be demonstrated? The system has been in use for nearly 40 years. All it takes is a GPS or INS fix for the firing location and met data inputs. Both firing and target points can be somewhat ambiguous in which case the dispersal altitude and rockets per mission are increased to ensure target destruction. The system has automated firing solutions for everything from trenches to moving vehicles. The ammo pods are frag and bullet resistant. Excellent weapon system. It just needs to be fed.

I hope those Russian soldiers rebel against Putin using them as sacrifices for Putin’s ego

This is the only way.

Get putin to stop the invasion.

There is no other solution.

As of now, you have made an unsupported assertion - whereas I have merely accused you of making an unsupported claim (while admittedly also expressing some optimism that the new weapons could prove devastating to the Russians).

The problem is with logistics - getting munitions into the field. Of course, our bigger problem is we are giving a monkey a hand grenade.

Of course they will use it to fire into Russia. And it will draw a nasty response in return, possibly against a NATO city. This is largely due to the regime, who are so weak they cannot face losing another war. It may get lots of us killed.

If the Russians ever bombard a NATO city in the context of the current conflict in Ukraine, I'll personally PayPal you one hundred dollars.

Keep a record of this posting, and remind me of it when Russia launches a rocket at a NATO city, or fires artillery against a NATO city.

GAYTO city? Why waste time and money on that? I personally have no problem with Russia knocking out New York, Washington, Seattle or Los Angeles.

My bet is Putin goes to the heart of the problem - striking at the heart of the Great Global Reset.

I thought the new US artillery was the game changer to stop Russia’s progress. What’s next battlefield tactical nukes?

What a liar.

The city where civilian facilities (non seized by the UKes and military occupied) are being “ brutally shelled” is Donetsk. And not by Russia. And not for the first time.
As the Ukes face defeat, they apparently decided to flatten the future capital of the DPR.
