A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed and another individual injured by a "high powered rifle" in east Oakland Thursday evening, officials said.
The Oakland Police Department said it received a report of shots being fired and "one person down" in the Frick neighborhood at 64th Avenue and Camden Street near Concordia Park around 6 p.m. The city's ShotSpotter system also detected shooting activity in the area.
At the scene, officers found a 16-year-old boy who had been shot and who had died from his wounds, Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong said in a Facebook video stream Thursday night.
A second victim was also shot and is in stable condition, Armstrong said.
KTVU reported that the boy was visiting his grandfather in Oakland and the injured individual was his cousin.
"Oh my God, lord! Don't tell me they shot my baby," Esau Brooks, the boy's grandfather, said at the crime scene, KTVU reported.

some of you might’ve heard the story, back in ‘84, when a young woman was driving down a road a mile distant (down rag) from where thee ‘84 Olympic rifle (.22lr)competitions were being held, and she was struck by a ‘flyer’ from the range and killed instantly.
What, exactly, are the characteristics that make a rifle “high powered?” Bullet weight? Muzzle velocity? Muzzle energy? Energy at 500 or 1000 yds? Or even dumber, caliber, barrel length, magazine capacity... Another term like “assault weapon” that sounds scary to the sheep.
He may have been a gang member, or, because he was visiting, ended up wearing his red sneakers in a blue area.

Yup. These clowns talk about “gun control.” Millions of us safely control our guns every time we go to the range. The issue is controlling the maniacs. If we bothered to lock up and/or execute murders, there would be fewer maniacs shooting people. <P!

High powered is kind of a relative term thrown around by the press for impact. Legally it’s probably the minimum required by state law for deer hunting. In the hunting world .223/5.56 are universally considered “varmint” rounds.
What’s “concerning” is inner city black culture.
