Kid did deserve an ass whipping but he didn’t deserve to die. In old America I would think this was a fight that went to far. In todays America maybe they did intend to kill him.

Take the gun and stomp it.

He didn’t know how to use it properly, so that would have
been reasoned to me. No need to pound the guy. He’d get
the message.

He, a white guy, "disrespected" three young black males. The penalty for such is death. They kill EACH OTHER for less, they would not let a white guy get away with it.

3 suspects charged with murder in death of Akron teen Ethan Liming

"The U.S. Marshals Service later announced brothers Deshawn Stafford Jr. and Tyler Stafford—20 and 19 years old, respectively—had been taken into custody along with their 21-year-old cousin Donovan Jones around 9:30 a.m. at separate locations, with the Akron Police Department assisting in the operation. The trio are currently being held on charges of murder and felonious assault, with Jones also accused of disrupting public service."

It can reliably be assumed that anyone named "Deshawn" is from ghetto culture.
