I find healthy click beetle larvae in piles of dirty plastic dust in my basement shop. A little plastic, a little whitewash, they’re as happy as can be.

Sounds good on paper but inevitably these creatures get released into an environment and end up as an invasive species.
Imagine plastic eating parasites being released at an oil refinery. Or a nuclear power plant. Doesn’t sound like much but it could be a major disaster.

We know that the good bugs eat the bad bugs in a septic tank...That bugs eat oil..(Remember how stunned they were that the oil spill was being eaten up at an astronomical rate. They use bugs at old gas station pits.
This is on the same idea.

Apparently, this article is referring a close relative to the common mealworm, Tenebrio molitor*, already endemic across the globe.
(No relation to Paul Molitor.)

A plump larva the length of a paper clip can survive on the material that makes Styrofoam. That may be true, but if given a choice of other things in a garbage dump, with real food, will it?..............
