14th and U Sts — that area was destroyed in riots after MLK’s assassination, and stayed unrestored for decades afterwards. Finally, it has come back in the past 20 years, and now this.
The inventor and promoters of this day want this to supplant everything to do with Martin Luther King. MLK was for non-violence. MLK was adamant the color of one’s skin was NOT a criterion for judging a person and surely should not affect how a person is treated. MLK was a minister - this they hate, too.
HISTORY: Not all slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, nor via Juneteenth. Only the slaves of the REBEL states were freed then. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was a wartime effort to split and weaken the South; he did NOT free any slaves in the Northern states. Slaves in the non-rebelling border states had to wait for the 13th Amendment, effective December 18, 1865.
