To protect a couple of specie of birds from losing some habitat in the form of trees. But if the forest burns, they still likely lose their habitat and won’t have any food.

There is no justice in the world. Rush dies way too young, and Joe Blow lives to be nearly 80!

Does the effort harms conservation?

Does it violate existing federal environmental law?

That is all I care about.

Certainly ‘Is the existing federal law stupid’ would be a valid question, and one that should be asked.

The fight continues as drought-stricken California enters what could be a potential devastating wider season, one of several in recent years. Environmentalists have resisted logging in national forests that once helped remove fuel and suppress fires.

Figures. Drag it out and burn down the giant trees. Then launch a recall of Newsom.

When it comes to forest management, the environmentalists are the problem not the solution.

After several fires, Yosemite looks pretty pitiful.
Sad.
Not too much to preserve.

What you get is a “plasticizing” fire that seals the soil surface… water runs off instead of going into the soil, meaning flooding.

They long ago succeeded with this tactic in the Washington State Olympic National Forest and the National Park systems.
