Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) announced Friday that she would prioritize legislation permitting abortion across the country following the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.
“In the wake of this ruling, it is up to Congress to respond,” wrote Murkowski, vowing that she would continue “to work with a broader group to restore women’s freedom to control their own health decisions wherever they live.”
She added: “Legislation to accomplish that must be a priority.”
Murkowski recounted that she had introduced legislation earlier this year “to protect women’s reproductive rights as provided in Roe,” namely the Reproductive Choice Act.
A press release explained that the Reproductive Choice Act would “codify the standards set in Roe and Casey and assure they continue to be the law of the land.”
“Senator Murkowski supports women’s reproductive freedoms, including the right to an abortion up to fetal viability,” the statement reads.

She is a Satanist.
Wow, she is really making her best effort to lose her re-election bid.
Republicans need to keep abortion law entirely at state level.
That can be revisited as soon as there is a Republican President.
And on which Enumerated power is this evil woman’s legislation based ?0
To follow her rationale, assuming she read the opinion, she would resign and then run for State Rep or State Sinate, where the power to legislate abortion now stands.
Nope, thete is no enumated power which give the Federal Government any say in the matter, case closed.
Murkey wants to genocide the long term, indigenous peeps of Alaska?
hm... now that’s a good question, unlike most other issues, this one has more RINO support, because honestly nearly all RINO’s are secretly pro-abortion.
“Do they have 10 RINOs for this, Freepers??”
Of course they do. This will be one of the fastesr piece of legislation that will have ever passed in Congress,
I’d be surprised if there isn’t something on the Fraud’s desk by the 4th of July.
From your mouth to God’s ear. May she lose big time.
I hate the lies coming from abortionists regarding the Supreme Court ruling. They say it bans abortions. No it doesn't, it's a states-rights issue and the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government has nothing to do with guaranteeing abortions. You want it, go to a state that allows it.
Anything not especially enumerated in the Constitution is left up to the states to regulate. There is no nation-wide ban. Although it can be revisited, as you say, once we again have a Republican President.
The SC just literally answered the question as to where the Fed gov plays a role in the question of abortion: nowhere except federal enclaves and possibly US territories.
That would assume she has any character, which she does not. It is so much easier to impose a Fedzilla “one size fits all” solution than honor the concept of federalism.
My lack of faith in Congressional Republicans is so total that I believe it is best to keep it at state level.
Well Thank God for that. Praying that works out.
The Supreme Court just ruled that this is a states’ rights issue. It is just like a DC lawmaker to arrogantly think that she can override the states just by passing a law. It’s this same attitude that makes them think that they can ban guns.
Even with a Republican President and a modest Republican Congressional majority, I would want to avoid a situation where Congress passed an extremely weak and ineffectual federal pro-life law, while saying that it superseded strong and effective state pro-life laws.
“Sen. Lisa Murkowski vows to work on legislation in response to abortion ruling”
Would federal legislation be Constitutional? I don’t see how. Seems like it needs to stay with the states, unless they can pass a Constitutional Amendment.
I don’t think so.
