On Tuesday, Steven Greenberg, who previously represented R. Kelly in the fallen singing superstar’s federal sex-trafficking case out of Brooklyn, announced that Crimo Jr. and his estranged wife, Denise, had retained him in the wake of their son’s arrest.
The father, a onetime local mayoral candidate who used to run a neighborhood sandwich shop, has faced a wave of criticism for sponsoring his son’s gun license application, which allowed Crimo III to buy four guns, including his alleged slay weapon, before age 21.
The dad sponsored the application three months after his son was labeled a “clear and present danger” by authorities for threatening to kill relatives in 2019.
The incident, which led police to briefly confiscate a sword, dagger and 15 knives from the shooter’s home, was just a “childish outburst,” and the knives were “just a collection,” Crimo Jr. told The Post on Wednesday.
“You know, I used to collect coins and baseball cards,” the dad said.
Crimo Jr. said he decided to sponsor his son’s firearm owner’s identification card — which allowed the young man to buy the AR-15 used in the attack — because he thought Crimo III was going to use the weapon to go to the shooting range.
“He bought everything on his own, and they’re registered to him,” the dad said of his son’s weapons.
“You know, he drove there, he ordered them, he picked them up, they did his background check on each one,” said Crimo Jr., insisting he had “zero” involvement in the massacre.

Dad should go to prison.
Police came to his house over a suicide attempt by his son.
Police came to his house after his son threatened to kill them all.
Then he signed the papers to allow his son to buy the firearms he used in the parade massacre.
Inexcusable.
Father and son, Two losers. You can throw in the wacko mother with her anger management issues
If you have a kid with psychiatric issues you never sign for or give him a gun.
Most of the time they will use the gun on themselves.
Sometimes they will use them on other people.

I agree, there is too much going on with the son for his father not to know what made the monster tick.
It was enough for me when it was reported that the father signed for his underage 21 son to apply for and obtain an Illinois FOID, which enabled the son to purchase at least three firearms. All with knowing about the crazy ideas and past behavior of his son the monster.
What papers did he have to sign to be a sponsor?
I can only add that at least in Florida, it comes down to having been involuntarily committed for psych reasons.
In FL it’s called “The Baker Act” as in “He was Baker Acted.”
This freak never spent a night on a locked ward as far as I can tell.

It’s sort of like Hunter Biden getting a revolver. Between hits on his crack pipe, he walked into a gun store and wrote on his application “no drug use, no mental problems” etc.

Robert Crimo planned this for I think months. The father is in denial.
I had a neighbor who’s son, Johnny, even at the age of 7 or so, was stealing, used to take neighbors lawn mowers, steal the kids bikes and making those bikes go fast because he somehow put motors on the bikes, stole all sorts of things, vandalized properties used to beat up other kids in the neighborhood, did this like every day, including my brother, for no reason other than he was a mean nasty bully.
I heard his mother say, often, ‘my Johnny would never do that’.
btw, I still know his sister. Little Johnny, now grown, has been taking meth for years is homeless and a schizophrenic.
