Woke Oberlin College Faces $4M in Interest After Refusing to Pay Damages to Bakery It Slandered

Oberlin College is facing $4 million in interest charges after refusing to pay $33 million in court-ordered defamation damages to a mom-and-pop bakery that it slandered as racist.

Gibson’s Bakery is reportedly struggling to survive after Oberlin College students and dean of students Meredith Raimondo falsely accused the business of racism.

Moreover, students are continuing to boycott the 137 year-old bakery, despite the allegations being proven false.

To make matters worse, the woke Ohio college is not paying its court-ordered damage to Gibson’s Bakery.

Now, Oberlin College faces paying $4 million in interest on top of what the school already owes, according to a report by Daily Mail.

Earlier this year, three judges on the Ninth District Court of Appeals issued a 3-0 decision upholding the 2019 ruling in the case. The award is the largest defamation verdict in Ohio history.

Oberlin College was ordered to pay Gibson’s Bakery $33 million for defamation damages in 2019 after Raimondo — now an ex-dean — orchestrated a woke mob into slandering the family as racists for calling the police on three black students for allegedly shoplifting a bottle of wine.

The money was to be paid to the bakery by April 1, but the college has refused to pay it.

Additionally, two of the plaintiffs are now deceased. Gibson’s Bakery owner Allyn Gibson and his son, David Gibson, have since passed while the family awaits the millions that they were awarded from Oberlin College.

Meanwhile, Oberlin has reportedly appealed the ruling against them. The appeal is set to be heard by the Ohio Supreme Court, after two lower courts rejected the college’s attempts to get out of paying the Gibson’s.

If you make money off an evil place like Oberlin, don’t be surprised when they turn on you and make you the enemy. Especially if you’re white and own a business near that college. You live by it, you die by it.

Wonder if the bakery has the courage to seek the college real estate, evict the lunatics and sell the property.

Time to start throwing some of Oberlin’s rectal orifices in the big house. A third world “college” with no respect for the law.

Or better yet, run the place as a conservative university. Maybe bring in some administrators from Hillsdale College.

Seize the administration and “fill in the blank” studies buildings, convert them to Section 8 housing and bring in the ferals to terrorize the rest of the campus.

Isn’t it odd that only leftist judges seem to have any teeth? Only republicans or straight-white-males ever seem to have to comply (or get their doors knocked in)

When lefties lose, there never seems to be any court enforcement.

Seems I remember hearing about a small claims settlement that wasn’t paid by a bank to a customer and the customer went in with the sheriff and started taking computers and other pieces of furniture to sell to settle the bank’s debt.

Perhaps Gibson needs to start claiming properties on the campus and selling them to pay the school’s debt.

And nothing like setting a good example - you lose in court and say f u to the person you lost to. Maybe the students need to stop paying the school, seeing how the admins think it is ok to not fulfill a debt.

Gibson’s Bakery needs to move out of that spot. Doesn’t matter they have been there for some 137 years. Local History means nothing to a college like that if you are judged as Non PC.

It’s just a matter of time before antifa types begin smashing those lovely picture and display windows.
The Bakery owners still don’t seem to get how their immediate environment has changed.

I'll give Alana a break on this because ... well, just because.

The money was to be paid to the bakery by April 1, but the college has refused to pay it.

Their lawyers need to put liens on ALL of their property and assets. Seize the property and tell the "students" to go home.

The way to force the judgement is to obtain a lien on all the college property including all bank and security accounts.

Students enrolling is a college with such liens are foolish. Their tuition paid has a lien on it and thus unrefundable

A foreclosure on the college as it were.

Go after the school’s assets.

As a lawyer, I wonder what is the school’s exit strategy? Also, why can’t the bakery execute their judgment with attachments?

From what I have read, the college has an insurance bond company which has to pay the damages, not the college. So they are just delaying it as much as they can. Cause the insurance company doesn’t want to lose 37 million., The college may be uninsurable after this. Then, all wronged parties, for any reason, may swoop down like vultures and try and tear everything they can off of Oberlin.

Perhaps Gibson needs to start claiming properties on the campus and selling them to pay the school’s debt.

In most (if not all) states a judgment creates a lien on all real estate owned by the defendant in the state. It can't be enforced until all rights of appeal have been exhausted, though. The good news for the bakery is that interest continues to accrue until the judgment is paid.
