With temperatures in parts of the UK expected to hit 33C this week, the last thing any drivers are thinking about is heated seats. But a fierce debate has been sparked online, following the news that BMW is offering a subscription service to turn on heated seats in its cars.

The service will see drivers charged £15/month to turn on heated front seats, and an additional £10/month to switch on the heated steering wheel. BMW hopes the service will be helpful for owners who change their minds after purchase.

However, skeptics have called BMW 'greedy', and claim that if the technology is already built into the cars, users should have access.

I’m starting to believe it. Make everyone bankrupt. Take all assets. You own nothing.

Looks to be happy with the Dutch farmers

Eventually we'll be paying to stay alive, like in the movie "In Time".

So I’m pretty sure you own the car. After all you do have title. Now it seems BMW has their device on your property. Sounds like a rent payment is in order. And what’s powering the device? Sounds like they need a monthly power bill as well.

I have read that several electronic options may soon require
“rent” on some BMWs - adaptive cruise control, navigation, automatic high beam control, AppleCarPlay, dash cam, adaptive suspension.

Seems rather greedy to me. I could possibly see a one time activation fee. It might make some sense for production line efficiency. I certainly wouldn’t buy one of their cars if the only option is to rent features..

Sounds like freedom to me, not to mention capitalism.

Wait until the government remotely turns off your via software car because you didn't pay your taxes or you have a poor social credit score.

I remember being bemused when I was at a high-level convention and the Hyatt that I stayed at charged for internet connection and other such ‘convenience items’! This was a surprise as the previous night on the trip to the convention, I stayed at a motel that cost a third of the Hyatt and had the internet AND breakfast included. (FYI: The Hyatt chain is the base of the Pritzker Family fortune, a rabid LEFTist family that includes the current Illinois Governor. Given any choice, I’d stay elsewhere!)

This BMW ‘rent’ operation seems on the same mode and proliferating through the industry. Amenities that are electronic and not part of the actual driving function will become revenue-stream charges! Not a trend that I like!

“ I certainly wouldn’t buy one of their cars if the only option is to rent features..”

No, no, no! You are actually buying a license to the software that controls these features. This is all Gates’ idea. Now that they plan to modify your DNA with vaccines you will soon need to pay for the license to the software that fixes your breathing after the last “update” jab. Isn’t it all wonderful?

—”So I’m pretty sure you own the car. After all you do have title. “

We have the title to our house free and clear, yet still, have to pony up about $8k each year and more every year?

It was only $1,100 at move-in.
