And for those thinking that birdshot is a good home defense round, below is a video of a guy with a shotgun shooting a girl from 10 feet or so square in the chest. She walked away and survived. (She did require surgery in her arm).
Also note the hero hall monitor student (with illegal pepper spray) that took down the gunman. The first student that was shot (outside) was killed. The killer sneaked up behind the student and put the barrel at the base of his skull. Several other students were also wounded outside but nothing serious.

I think the best example to touch on is shooting a weapon
into the air. If you think about it, hitting someone at
360 degrees and variable distances, the chances of hitting
someone is very small. We still don’t do it, because it
just might hit someone.
It’s like winning the lottery. I couldn’t win if the odds
were 1 in 100.
If it comes to harming someone and being held responsible,
I would harm someone if the odds were
1 in 113,000,000,000,000.
