Fox News star Tucker Carlson flirts with presidential run in Iowa speech

Tucker Carlson, the top-rated Fox News host who has built a following pushing conspiracy theories and lighting into the culture wars, on Friday flirted with a presidential run in his speech to a large gathering of Christian conservative voters in Des Moines, Iowa.

Carlson used the event to blast transgender athletes, high energy prices (and wind turbines), make a glancing mention to Jan. 6 (an issue which hasn’t engaged voters on the right), before ultimately pivoting to an attack on corporate America. The speech ultimately focused on the kind of pocketbook issues that have been engaging many voters this year, themes very familiar to his large cable audience.

Trump needs a primary challenger from the MAGA wing of the party, to keep his feet to the fire. In his 2020 reelection campaign he didn’t sound like a MAGA candidate. He spent a lot of time bragging about letting felons out of prison, and he blasted Biden for being “too tough” on drug offenders in his crime bill back in the 80s. Unlike 2016, Trump no longer talked about the wall,?infrastructure, taxing hedge fund billionaires, or bringing factories back from low-wage third world countries. Instead, he bragged about signing the McConnell-Ryan tax cuts for big, woke corporations. He also boasted about the vaccines. And you’re surprised he didn’t win like he won in 2016 - when he no longer sounded like the MAGA candidate of 2016?

Trump needs a MAGA challenger to make sure he stops straying from MAGA

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, nor is it true. None of it.

Doubtful that he believes he can win.

He would use the platform to push his message, increase viewership of his show, and sell books.

Nothing wrong with that.

Essentially, Trump listened to Mr and Mrs Ivanka for his 2020 run. If he gets back in the WH in 2024, I hope he leaves those two in NY where they fit in just fine with all the liberals.

I wouldn’t really consider Yahoo a reliable news source.

“He has the role that Rush Limbaugh had in the ’90s and he’s very aware of it,” Schweppe said. “Tucker is setting the terms of ’24 right now, he is the moderator. He’ll be hugely influential in terms of setting the topics. He has the bully pulpit.”

And that's exactly where he's going to stay.  Tucker is going to keep the culture war alive, and any candidate who "gets it" will benefit. He loses influence if he tries to become the candidate himself.

Delusions of grandeur.

(1) It's Yahoo; and

(2) Nothing in the article supports the title.

Tucker would make a good Trump administration Spokesperson. Would love to see him go head to head with Jim Acosta.

More of your BS again. This is ridiculous. Trump will announce soon hopefully, and no one will challenge him.

Outside of the FoxNews viewership, most people have no idea who Carlson is.

He might manage 5%.

Did you know I'm running for President, too?

I'm gonna out-Pat Paulson by acting like him. LOL, my platform will revolve around raising the minimum wage to $100, with the theme, "No More Pikers!"

I'm working on some other ideas, if only to throw Democrat policies back in their faces, like shutting down windmills and solar grids, because of all the birds they're killing.

Tucker and Gutfell, like most Liberaltarians, would agree to vote for Stalin if given a big sack of dope to smoke with their queer boyfriend.

I read the article and it’s a LIE.
Carlson said nothing of the kind. The author cited a source who thinks Carlson’s running. What he is saying is that carlson is holding the Rush Limbaugh position, the bully pulpit. And that Carlson is setting the conversation for the 24 election. On that I will agree.

These ‘journalists’ always bury the lead.
It’s kind of criminal.

That is exactly my opinion and much better put that I could.
