The state of Florida is looking to the nation’s military veterans to help fill teaching positions, with applications already coming in.

The state’s Education Commissioner Manny Diaz said Friday the bill to begin the program had passed, according to Fox News.

Diaz noted the over 80 applications had since come in, saying, “This is a great pathway for us to be able to have our veterans, in this veteran-friendly state, to step up to the plate.”

The Florida Department of Education detailed the Military Veterans Certification Pathway that went into effect on July 1, describing it as a 5-year temporary certificate for veterans who did not yet have their bachelor’s degree.

I’ve always thought that all teachers should be Marine drill instructors. The first day of school should be like Full Metal Jacket.

Yes! The WW2 and Korean War Veterans that taught me in the 50’s and 60’s imparted much wisdom along with the 3 R’s.

I graduated from high school in 1972, and many of the men teachers in grade school and high school were veterans of WWII and/or Korea. There weren’t as many disciplinary problems as today.

Our local newsrags here in Sarasota country (the SHT and the Venice Gondolier) recently ran articles about this plan, and boy, it sure had the liberal teachers' panties in a wad. Last thing they want is any incursion into their little kingdom by 'outsiders'. "They don't have the skills", "They don't have the college degrees", ad nauseaum -- the typical elitist tantrums we've come to expect from the self-anointed.

That tells us this is a very good thing.

When I had trig in high school it didn’t make sense to have to memorize trig identities.

Years later in advanced math and engineering classes at UF I found out that a good basis in those identities led to solutions to problems that were impossible without the proper substitutions.

This is wonderful. Get PATRIOTs to teach kids instead of America-hating, marxist, CRT-loving, pink-haired, facial-jewelry, tattooed skanks.

I’ve always thought that if we had more male teachers, we would have less problems in schools.

Seems like a wholesome way to go, compared to the soy tools
they seem to have now.

I know there are still good teachers out there, but it is very
hard to accept that they haven’t walked out en mass over
what is taking place.

I graduated three years before you and attest to what you say. Especially Mr. Razzman teaching fourth grade at Cayuga Heights Elementary in Ithaca, NY. You didn’t cross Mr. Razzman if you knew what was good for you. I don’t think we ever knew if he was a WW II vet, but it wouldn’t have surprised me one bit.

Yes, this is wonderful. Those Vets will teach their students HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

You are way behind on what Governor Ron has been doing if you think this is the absolute best thing he has done yet.
He has outlawed the teaching of Critical Race Theory in State schools.

This is good news. Public schools need more of their type. But these vets had better be ready for a little culture shock, especially if they’re sent to bad schools.

Sergeant on a drill field: “Fall in!”
Troops: “Yes, sergeant!”

Sergeant/Teacher in a public school: “Everyone take your seats.”
Some students will ignore that. You’ll probably even get a: “F*** you!”

I’m not exaggerating here, or trying to be funny. I taught for decades in urban public schools, and getting up to speed at first was a miserable and disheartening experience. Parade ground stuff (yelling and threatening) won’t work. It just won’t.

It’s actually sink-or-swim. And it takes a certain amount of luck. I had two decent classes my first year. That kept me sane. But no way would I go into urban education today. It’s worse now than even back then.

Spot on post. Their (little Liberal) heads are sploding over this. Vets in general don’t take shit and can’t be intimidated. School boards and Teachers unions are worried as hell. I love it.
