PLA not to sit idly by if Pelosi visits Taiwan: Chinese spokesperson

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday once again warned the United States that the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will not sit idly by if U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the warning at a daily news briefing.

China has repeatedly stated to the United States its grave concern over the issue and the solemn position of resolutely opposing Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, and stressed the severe consequences if Pelosi visits Taiwan, Zhao said.

"The will of the people cannot be defied, and those who play with fire will perish by it," Zhao said. "It is believed the U.S. side is fully aware of China's strong and clear message."

China is closely following the itinerary of Pelosi, Zhao said. "A visit to Taiwan by her would constitute a gross interference in China's internal affairs, seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, wantonly trample on the one-China principle, greatly threaten peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, severely undermine China-U.S. relations, and lead to a very serious situation and grave consequences."

China once again warns the U.S. side that China is on high alert, the PLA will never sit idly by, and will surely take resolute and strong countermeasures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, Zhao said.

The United States should strictly abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations in the three China-U.S. joint communiques, honor U.S. President Joe Biden's commitment that the United States does not support "Taiwan independence," and not arrange for Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, the spokesperson added.

I think the CCP could try a D-Day invasion, and if they are willing to throw thousands of troop-laden fishing boats at Taiwan (amounting to more than a million troops) it might work, but why try a direct kinetic invasion (that might end in humiliating failure) when a blockade strategy has a MUCH greater chance of success?

It’s 2022, not 1997, when Newt visited Taiwan.

This is not “Rocky 27” where the seventy-year-old boxer (America) gets back in shape and whips 24-year-old Mike Tyson. We cannot afford to live according to our Hollywood fantasies. We must grasp new realities.

We have half the military we had then (also adjusting for fatal wokeness), and China has at least 2X or 3X more.

Most importantly, China has deployed 100s of land-based hypersonic ship-killers that can take out our carriers before they are in aircraft-launching range of Taiwan.

IMHO, our carriers are as obsolete as battleships in WW2, when land-based Japanese Betty bombers sank the British battleships fleeing Singapore. Modern flat-tops are great for pummeling 3rd-tier nations. They are useless against peer adversaries like China and Russia.

Folks can argue about the above, but do you think it’s a good gamble to try to test the new paradigm? Do you think it’s a gamble that Biden’s handlers will take?

A CVN that is sunk 100% totally destroys the vestigial aura of American military supremacy. That is a very big risk to take.

Declaring a sea and then an air blockade of Taiwan is much safer for the CCP. America, (Biden’s handlers), will then have to then decide to break the declared CCP blockade, and risk the loss of a carrier battle group.

(The same national security team that fled from Afghanistan in utter defeat and humiliation.)

IMHO will be a CCP blockade Taiwan strategy, and Biden’s handlers will not risk breaking it.

That is my prediction.

Isn’t that a contradiction? You start by saying it’s not even breaking news, then you say the regular media has it at the Cuban Missile Crisis threat level. I don’t know if you were around in 1962, but the Cuban Missile Crisis dominated all news. We were glued to the TV.
