This is very good news for Eric Schmitt. Wood had made his bid as an independent hoping to run against Greitens. Now that he isn't then it's a heads up challenge with Valentine and I like those odds.

Busch-Valentine is a gun-grabbing urban Democrat. The usual suspects will $upport her. But I think Schmitt can overcome this.

“Somebody from MO splain it to me.”

McConnell didn’t want Greitens in HIS Senate. So he (and likely Cheney) arranged for Wood to run if Greitens won the primary.

But since Greitens didn’t win the primary, oh never mind.

Wood is a RINO who got into the race solely to keep Greitens from getting elected. He is, or was, running as an independent in hopes of splitting the vote. With Greitens losing the nomination then Woods purpose for running is pretty much ended.

Woods was essentially fronted by former Senator John Danforth, as a spoiler to Eric Greitens, had he won the Republican primary earlier this month.

I think there were several factors (besides Greitens losing, but that is the public narrative) that led to Wood withdrawing. First, he doesn't live in Missouri, and rented an apartment to claim residency; he's a horrible campaigner and would not be found on the campaign trail at all-that only works if you run the voting machines. Most of all, I think that Danforth saw that Wood was not going to have any effect on the outcome (a Schmitt victory in November) and decided to quit throwing good money after bad.

By claiming that Greitens loss was the reason he bowed out, Wood sorts claims a victory here. In reality, Missouri voters sniffed out this loser early on and sent him packing back to Virginia, where is seems a lot of fake Republicans live.

John Danforth was neck deep in this also.
Apparently, Danforth is an Episcopal priest and he detests the idea of conservative Christians running the GOP.

McConnell wasn't the only one who didn't want Eric Greitens in the US Senate.Neither did I, and many Missouri voters. Greitens finished third behind Eric Schmitt and Vicky Hartzler.

Had Greitens won, I would have voted for Wood. Greitens did not win, which makes me very happy. I can't wait to vote for Eric Schmitt (whom I supported) for US Senate. I believe he will be a MUCH more conservative Senator that retiring Senator Roy Blunt ever was. (That's not a high bar, I know. :) )

I guess he was a “spoiler candidate” picked specifically to suck votes away from the natural constituency of one particular candidate. Since that candidate is out of the race, the spoiler is obsolete.

Broken clock. Greitens is an imbecile who needs serious psychological help. Almost certain GOP win in Nov now.

You are exactly right Woods sole goal was to take votes from Greitens. Deep State was afraid of Greitens, because he would not bow to the Puppetmaster!

Deep State did not want Greitens because he would not bow to the Puppetmasters. Trudy won’t win in MO!

Eric Schmitt, the current Attorney General of Missouri won the GOP primary and will face off against Trudy Busch Valentine from the baby-killing party. Schmitt is up by 15% in the polls, and should win, unless he does something stupid or if Valentine dies.

In Missouri we have a history of strange elections, one where Todd Akin said some idiotic things and lost a sure-fire Senate seat; and Mel Carnahan, our governor who was running for Senate until his son flew their plane into the ground. The sympathy for Mel's family helped him squeak by John Ashcroft in the 2000 election. Yes, we elected a dead man to the US Senate.
