Please explain how Trump would have been in a position to really fire Fauci on the heels of his first “impeachment”, never mind the fact that Fauci was not really openly defying Trump at most times during 2020.

The same way he fires everyone else: "You're fired!". Said either in person or via phone, email, or tweet. That was, after all, his trademark line on the Apprentice. As head of the Executive branch, President Trump had broad discretion over who collects a federal paycheck and who does not.
