However, with that being said, this was not in the United States, it was Canada.
Firearms are not permitted to be carried in Canada’s National Parks, period.
They should also tack on a fine for stupidity.........
I carry a metal whistle and a 9mm. I have not encountered a black bear in years on the trail.
ive seen several and heard 2 that i couldn’t see- had one clapping it’s jaws/teeth and huffing- likely because it could only hear me walking, and could smell my presence but couldn’t see me. Was out walking dog in woods, and he took off- i was calling for it, and saw a black shape ahead, then saw it stand up- nope- wasn’t the lab- lol- had one bear walk right under our deck, and i waited till it was right under the deck to clap my hands- wow- a person isn’t going to outrun a bear- it scared it and it took of like a rocket- had a mother and cubs across a small stream from me once- cubs were in an apple tree- mother was gettign the apples on the ground- that one was too close for comfort- thankfully she kept on her side of the stream-
We got a ‘sonic whistle’ which is super loud - used to carry the air-horns, but the small ones are ridiculously priced now-
I just do not like to be near them. Just as soon shoot one as have it charge me. But, I will wait and see what it is going to do while I slowly back away.
A couple was having a picnic in Asheville about a year ago with their unleashed dog. The dog enraged the bear, and they had to fight the bear off until they could make it inside their car. Fortunately minor injuries only. The bear then jumped on top of their car! Very lucky.
that is too close for comfort- i woulda needed a change of pants after that lol-
The couple went straight to the emergency room with minor injuries. The instigating dog was unscathed.
