Kim Jong Un contracts COVID-19: North Korean state media

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been infected with COVID-19, according to state media.
Kim, whose health has been the subject of speculation, is suffering from a high fever, reported state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun, which reported multiple instances of the leader being exposed to COVID-19, according to Fox News.
Kim's sister, Kim Yo Jong, has not commented on her brother's reported case of COVID-19, only saying on North Korean television that he was "seriously ill with a high fever."
On Aug. 10, North Korea declared victory over COVID-19, with Kim describing the country's death toll of 74 since April as an "unprecedented miracle" compared to other countries, according to NK News. The country's tendency to undercount COVID-19 cases was widely documented, and the figure has not been independently verified.
North Korea reported its first case of COVID-19 in May, with its first death related to the disease reported days later following an "explosive" outbreak. The country had previously reported having no cases of COVID-19, prompting skepticism from across the globe.
In April 2020, the North Korean leader underwent surgery and disappeared from the public eye, leading to speculation that he had died and his sister would ascend to take his place. The rumors of his death were put to an end when he reappeared in public in May 2020.
