Green parties in Europe have been hit over the head with a two-by-four called reality. Their sanctimonious preaching about dangers of fossil fuels and climate change is not jibing with the reality of energy situation in Europe. There has been a sneering condescension by Greens toward anyone who questions their monopoly on the “truth of climate change” and what should be done about it.
But Greens in France, Great Britain, and other EU countries are out of power. They can bash the government for their reliance on fossil fuels to their hearts’ content because they don’t have to put any political capital where their mouths are.
Except in Germany. The Greens are members of Chancellor Olaf Schulz’s left-wing coalition and are now dealing with the uncomfortable realities of power. And one of those realities is that since Russia invaded Ukraine, German supplies of natural gas have largely been held hostage by Russian president Vladimir Putin, whose pipelines supply Germany with 27% of Germany’s overall energy mix. Before the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine, just over half (55%) of gas consumed in Germany was imported from Russia.
Since then, Putin has played footsie with Europe by shutting down the Nord Stream pipelines for “maintenance” twice — the second time ten days ago. And now, Putin has shut the natural gas pipeline down “indefinitely,” forcing Germany and much of Europe into hard choices.
Now the Greens are having to make a great energy leap. As members of the German government they are staring close up at the realities of soaring energy prices. They are having to face the prospect of the lights going off this winter, and of public buildings in major cities such as Hamburg already trying to ration the amount of electricity they use.

Ok. My bad on generalizing your country. Every country have their own idiot politicians..
If I ever need wisdom from a child, I’LL SLAP IT OUT OF THEM!
Don’t need to beat’em, a good slap generally gets their attention.
Here in the area I live we lose power at least 3 times a year in the winter, sometimes for as much as 21 days (longest I’ve been without so far), good thing I have a POLUTTING WOOD STOVE!
the people will not freeze
the people will warm themselves by the bonfire
the greens
they promise the jetsons
you get the flintstones
they solved that problem by having double the engines at double the cost
no worries
the taxpayers will bend over
I have to apologize to you for getting angry too quickly.
If I offended you, I would really like to take it back :-)
Andd you are very right: every country has its own idiot politicians (and their “little helpers” in the media), and unfortunately a number of citizens who believe their devious words, too, and simply go with the flow (some really have to, but all too many could have a choice).
My hope would be that freedom-loving persons of any nation could find common ground and work and act against their respective power elites, who work together globally - for the detriment of their respective peoples.
If the power elites are an international juggernaut, why can’t we ordinary people then try to help each other by “making friends”, in order to resist their onslaught?
Just a few thoughts... :-)
My family and I are in luck: we still have oil-burners in our houses.
Let’s hope for a mild winter nonetheless - and for peace on Earth. May God hear from Heaven, Amen.
That POS was a Commie masquerading as a conservative, and utterly evil.
Have you ever heard about ther family? I could tell you something about her...
And (sorry if I repeat myself: I could have kicked the five a......s at the UN during the presidential speech so hard in the butt they would have been flying to Mars :-> My word on it.
Still, I would have liked to go to the President after his speech and tried to explain him the situation, that there is no other mineral gas available on the world market, thus we Germans have to bite the bullet.
Furthermore, again on the topic of the A.....e five: since when haven’t leftist politicians worked deliberately to the detriment of their respective countries?
“If I ever need wisdom from a child, I’LL SLAP IT OUT OF THEM! Don’t need to beat’em, a good slap generally gets their attention.”
Never wanted any ‘wisdom’ from my kids, just obedience and respect. They were allowed to say their minds, and I would consider it. For the 1% of the time they had a point, they were listened to. For the other 99%, it stopped there, or else*.
*you summed it up good
