If only we listened to George Washington, when he warned us to stay out of European conflicts.
Now they are calling him a racist cracker . . . go figure.
While I think he was right in his assessment of America’s situation (in his lifetime), I haven’t heard of anyone calling him any slurs or names over here in Germany.
I might be wrong, but it seems that he played too little a role in European history.
Even when the first European powers formally acknowledged the independence of the US from Britain in 1783 and 1784 (Britain and Prussia, respectively), Washington had not yet been President. After all, before 1789, the Presidents of the Continental Congress were the transitory Heads of State of the young republic (unless I’m very wrong).
