I live in an apartment. It has an electric kitchen, but a gas water heater that also provides environmental heating with hot water. The electric service is sized for the current load. If the water heater were to be replaced with an electric one, the service would also need to be updated with higher capacity panel.

When I asked why EV cars are banned from the property, management's response was that they would have to beef up ALL the wiring to accommodate the load of charging cars. Not mentioned was insurance issues with EVs and their tenancy to become pillars of fire.

Here in Michigan about 1/3 of the electricity is Nuclear, 1/3 coal, and 1/3 natural gas (and 5% windmills and ugly farms and insignificant hydro.)
So get rid of the gas, and replace it by dirtier coal and... gas + transmission losses! So smart.

And was a cost Analysis done on this? No it wasn’t. And they assume everyone can switch over to electricity and that puts more pressure on the Grid. So the Sierra Club wants us to be like Europe and freeze and have no way to generate power.

I thought natural gas was far cleaner to burn than other fuel sources.

Cutting off natural gas, coal, or petroleum is not totally above board. The state that makes the most electricity is Texas. It produces 11% of the nation’s electricity.

However, almost 46% of this is created through the use of natural gas. Other categories of fossil fuel producing electricity across the 50 states include coal, nuclear and other petroleum products like diesel.

So by taking out fossil fuels to transfer to electric is going to shut down plants and cause electricity shortages: Brown outs and black outs nation wide.

Another problem is that according to energy.gov, there were 7.8 million people working to produce electricity in the US in 2021. The difference in the vote between Trump and Biden in 2020 was 7,059,547. Hmmmmm...
