Ban on fracking to be lifted as part of Liz Truss's energy plan Fracking was banned in England in 2019 after new research raised fresh fears over the risk of earthquakes.

Protesters are worried about contamination of drinking water and earthquakes

Liz Truss has announced the ban on fracking will be lifted as part of plans to accelerate the UK's domestic energy supply.

The prime minister said lifting the moratorium, brought in by the Conservatives, will enable developers to seek planning permission for fracking and get gas flowing in as soon as six months.

Ms Truss said she was "setting a new ambition for our country".

Truss condemned for energy announcement - live updates

"Far from being dependent on the global energy market and the actions of malign actors, we will make sure that the UK is a net energy exporter by 2040," she said.

Fracking is a technique for recovering gas and oil from shale rock by drilling into the earth.

It was banned in England in 2019 after new research raised fresh fears over the risk of earthquakes.

Environmentalists lie and are uneducated. Listening to environmentalists is killing people.

“Protesters are worried about contamination of drinking water and earthquakes...”

Time was, when people spoke publicly about irrational fears, we sent them to psychologists to deal with their phobias.

The EU still bans fracking. Germans are giving up their gym memberships. Instead they are chopping and collecting wood.

Won’t make any difference. The Crown owns all subsurface minerals, so there is no incentive for landowners to permit disruptive drilling and fracking activities. Unlike the U.S., no royalty payments coming to local farmers.

Furthermore, there is no developed infrastructure (pipelines, etc.) on British soil, and U.S. service companies won’t dedicate resources to make that happen.

Just meaningless hand-waving.

During WWII, Sherwood Forest, of Robin Hood fame, was found to have some oil available, but the Brits had no domestic expertise in extracting it. Some Oklahoma roughnecks were snuck into England and figured out how to drill it.

Its good news but honestly the onshore UK is not all that prospective for resource play drilling. Plus, no one over there really has the equipment nor expertise, because of the ban.

So Russia turns off the energy supply and now Germany, France, UK tell the Greenidiots to shove it. The lack of foresight of many world leaders astounds me.

You believed that? Clearly you are gullible and uneducated.

People have been lighting their tap water for decades as many aquifers have natural methane in them. It has ZERO to do with hydraulic fracturing.

The Brits can thank Putin (although they won’t) for EXPOSING the plans of the Globalists. Support for Fracking in UK was 17% before Ukraine, now I suspect that opposition to Fracking will be 17% (or at least will be after going through a winter in war-time conditions).
