Trump returned records before FBI raid ‘wrapped in tape’ and didn’t say he declassified them: affidavit

Former President Donald Trump returned to the government an envelope full of documents “wrapped in tape” and failed to mention that he supposedly declassified the records kept at his Florida residence, the FBI said in court papers revealed on Tuesday.

The unredacted details were included in the FBI search warrant affidavit used to justify the unprecedented Aug. 8 raid on an ex-president’s home.

After the raid, Trump claimed he declassified any records retrieved by the authorities from his Mar-a-Lago resort.

The newly disclosed search warrant affidavit details come as the Justice Department pushes back on Trump’s claim to have a standing order to declassify information en route to Palm Beach when he left office last year.

Although the president has the ultimate authority to declassify information, Trump has not produced a specific order covering documents stored at Mar-a-Lago — nor has the government said what actually is in the documents.

Trump claimed after the raid that “it was all declassified,” though experts and the Justice Department say that wouldn’t necessarily shield the former president from charges for mishandling national defense information.

The affidavit says that on June 3, Trump’s team handed over records that seemed to be treated “as if they were still classified.”

The fact that the documents were “in a Redweld envelope wrapped in tape appears to be consistent with an effort to handle the documents as if they were still classified,” the 38-page document says.

“On June 3, 2022, three FBI agents and DOJ COUNSEL arrived at the PREMISES to accept receipt of the materials. In addition to [an unnamed Trump attorney], another individual, hereinafter ‘INDIVIDUAL 2,’ was also present as the custodian of records for [Trump’s] post-presidential office,” the document says.

and failed to mention that he supposedly declassified the records

Perhaps he wasn't asked. Failing to mention it is not a crime.

What if the supposed significance of” wrapped in tape?”

“You didnt say ‘Mother may I’ “ as a reason to conduct a thirty man armed invasion of the home of a President of the United States

The Biden bureaucracy uses petty rules as if they are felonies when they aren’t even misdemeanors

Interesting...

The sad part...no one trusts the FBI, CIA or DOJ anymore and rightly so after Mueller and all the Dems chosen to be part of that fiasco...played and overplayed their hand. Not an honest man among them.

So? Trump can give declassified documents to the FBI (or whomever) without mentioning their classification status. He no longer wanted the physical documents documents. It’s
his choice.

As President of the United States, President Trump did not need to write that a document is declassified, he did not even have to say that a document or a set of documents is declassified. The President only needs to consider or to decide in his own mind that the documents are declassified.

Sounds like if Trump was going to transfer that information to a foreign government that he failed to hire the right middleman like James Riady or the guy from Loral

The FBI isn’t really impressing people by taking on the role
of Gladys Kravitz, the next door neighbor on Bewitched.

This is such bush-league nonsense it’s beyond embarrassing
for the FBI.

Who is their public image person these days, James Carville?

If so, he’s given them his exact persona, IMO.

Keeping them sealed doesn’t mean they’re not declassified. It’s prudent and this is blatant propaganda

So President Trump returning requested records wrapped in tape,

morphs in an affidavit, to

"OMG Drumpf is illegally keeping nuclear secrets!"

...which is what gets leaked to the press.
