President Joe Biden and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg addressed the Detroit Auto Show Wednesday to boast about their infrastructure policies, even as a massive rail strike looms that could shut down freight and some passenger traffic.

Thought I smelled sewer rats.
Because it is all theater. The deal is done awaiting the curtain to go up on the last minute savior bidet swooping in.
The only thing about transportation Buttgiggle knows about is the hershey highway.
Set up, there will be no general rail strike. Brave Joe will head it off
It sounds like Petey and Jo Jo are going to have a fabulous “Boyz Night Out”.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers ratified their strike. They intend to delay their strike for a few weeks while other railroad worker unions continue their negotiations.
I am still studying that part about extolling electric vehicles as the “way to go” for transportation needs for the future.
Nowhere was it addressed as to HOW this conversion to electric power was to be carried out. For sure, nobody seems to be relying on market forces to effect this change.
Until there is a means by which the motive power for the electrically powered vehicles may have their own on-board power generation system, the use of even the most sophisticated of batteries is a technological dead end. There is just no way, given the current and projected network for electrical power distribution, that vast numbers of battery plug-in electrical vehicles will ever come into widespread use. These are niche vehicles at best, unsuited to any use except for urban transport, over short distances and never far from a recharging station. But at present there are no other design schemes either being brought up or being promoted to make the difference. We have had various forms of hybrid vehicles, which use an internal-combustion engine to both run a generating system that drives the electric propulsion system, and also a direct mechanical connection to the drive wheels, but this is being phased out because of the distrust and prejudice against the use of hydrocarbon fuels.
This distrust is gravely misplaced. Sure, hydrocarbon fuels do produce carbon dioxide, but carbon dioxide, in the quantities produced, is most definitely NOT a pollutant, and in fact, is essential to our very lives. How else are we going to get the fizz in our soft drinks? Carbon dioxide is one of the steps to producing the oxygen we all breathe, and which is one of the most vital elements to our personal well-being and life itself.
There is a very large philosophical question here, that has not been addressed, and probably never shall be, by the nattering nabobs of negativism, further characterized as the 4-H club—the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history.
One can only assume that the Detroit and LA shows are now the same.
