I expect this to happen in a country such as Red China. I never expected to see this happen in America, and a semi-red state at that. What the hell happened to the medical community’s sacred mission to do no harm?

I suspect it was never really there and just something they spouted.
This community has largely disgraced itself these last three years. There’s probably a small minority that are good. Most probably are there for the check. A small minority are likely psychopaths.
