Turkey issues direct warning to Russia as Erdogan orders Putin to return 'occupied' land

The Turkish President has fired a huge warning to his Russian counterpart who is already struggling in the wake of impressive Ukrainian counter-strikes on Moscow's invading army.

...The comments, made in an interview with PBS NewsHour on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, are likely to spark fury in Russia.

When asked if Russia should be allowed to keep some of the territory it's taken from Ukraine since it invaded in February and if that should be "part of a solution to this — to this conflict", he replied through a translator: "No, and undoubtedly no.

"When we talk about reciprocal agreement, this is what we mean. If a peace is going to be established in Ukraine, of course, the returning of the land that was invaded will become really important.

"This is what is expected. This is what is wanted. Mr Putin has taken certain steps. We have taken certain steps. The lands which were invaded will be returned to Ukraine."

Mr Erdogan was also asked if Russia "should be allowed to keep Crimea", to which he replied: "Since 2014, we have been talking to my dear friend Putin about this, and this is what we have requested from him.

"We asked him to return Crimea to its rightful owners. These are our descendants at the same time, the people who are living there.

"If you were to take this step forward, if you could leave us, you would also be relieving the Crimean Tatars and Ukraine as well. That's what we have always been saying. But since then, unfortunately, no step has been taken forward."

Turkey wants Crimea, they want all of the Black Sea, they hope Russia is so weakened, it’s theirs for the taking.

Translation: Erdogan has seen the writing on the walls and determined that sticking with Europe and the USA and the Negev Coalition is better than an alliance with withering Russia

The alliance of losers will not actually take place

Erdogan wants Russia weakened, so he can tell off NATO and get the whole thing for himself.

Yep, Turkey is still in Northern Cyprus, since they invaded in 1974.

Agree, with Turkey even demanding Crimea, it’s obvious that Turkey is making a play for the Black Sea. They have to know they won’t get very far in that move.

I disagree. That might be a dream of sorts.

Erdogan is in miserably terrible shape. He has no such long run plans. His hope is for Turkey to just live yet another week

It may not be with Erdogan, but he is setting the table for his predecessor.

"Turkey wants Crimea, they want all of the Black Sea, they hope Russia is so weakened, it’s theirs for the taking."

I respectfully disagree. Turkey wants to throw a bone to Europe and pretend it's on their side to begin the Friendship Pipeline to transport natural gas to Europe without Europe having to buy all of it from Russia.

Edrogen wants Turkey to have big energy money coming in like Russia does every time Europe acts stupid and goes the "green" energy route. How nice it would be if the dhimmi nations of the old Roman Empires were begging for energy from the new Ottoman Empire as Turkey's pedo-god demands it.

That’s what they said about Germany during the early days of the Depression. Things change. Didn’t say it would be right away. But fast forward 10 years, and see.

Turkey is playing the long game. Yes, their economy is in the crapper right now. But things can change. They are using NATO for their own purposes, weaken Russia. Once that’s done, they will get off of the bus.

More cracks in the armor. Turkey see’s weakness in Russia too.

I originally thought Putin was in the wrong by invading, but that by force and numbers he would succeed. Then he would be stuck with trying to control an insurgency in Ukraine that would bleed him over twenty years.

When Putin invaded (really a few weeks into it), the curtain around the “great” Russian military came down. The first big clue was the stalled columns of armor trying to get to Kiev. The second was the lack of air superiority. The third was indiscriminate WWI style artillery shelling of non-military targets. The fourth was the losses of the black sea fleet. The fifth was total failure of decapitating the Ukraine govt. Today its the Russian army in retreat and the increase in military hardware losses.

The Russian military was/is a paper tiger, antiquated equipment and a stale military doctrine that does not fair well in a mobile environment.

That's what Hitler thought too, after the "Winter War"...."You only have to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down!"
