Russia and Ukraine exchanged hundreds of prisoners of war after a prisoner exchange was brokered by Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Among them were fighters from the Azovstal plant.

Ukraine announced the release of 215 imprisoned soldiers and 10 foreigners from Russia on Thursday.

The soliders were released in exchange for 55 Russian prisoners, as well as Victor Medvedchuck, leader of the banned pro-Russia political party in Ukraine. Among the released were fighters who led the defense of Mariupol's Azovstal's steelworks, an act that has been hailed as an icon of Ukrainian resistance...

Victor Medvedchuck, who has been said to be Putin's right hand man in Ukraine, is a Ukrainian politician who has been charged for alleged treason for his involvement with Russia. He was captured by Ukrainian forces in April.

...the Azov commanders were already safe in Turkey thanks to "personal arrangements" between Zelenskyy and Erdogan.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his government also played an role in brokering the prisoners exchange.

Among the foreigners released were five British nationals, two US military veterans and further prisoners from Morocco, Sweden and Croatia. They were flown to Saudi Arabia after being freed, the Saudi ministry said in a statement...

The White House thanked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for brokering the exchange in which two Americans were freed.

The five Azovstal Commanders are to stay in Turkey under the personal auspices of President Erdogan, until the end of the war.

Gotta agree with Strelkov on this one...trading Azovstal nazis for Ukrainian opposition leaders is a smack in the face to every Donbas militiaman who picked up a gun.

That’s the price of admission to the Russian Federation I suppose.

If that Ukrainian offensive is going as well as its being reported in the media, then why aren’t there thousands of Russian POWs? Supposedly there are 25,000 poorly supplied Russian soldiers at the “Kherson Bridgehead” with their backs to the Dnieper river with no reliable means to be resupplied, reinforced or withdrawn.

I actually think that the exchange is a good thing, unless for all the claims that all of them are going to get punished and won’t be exchanged. It sounds rather incoherent right now.

Although the fact that 55 Russians of whom there are only a couple senior officers for 200 Ukrainian celebrities is putting lies to Ukes bombastic claims of great victories. It also sends a bad signal to the regular Ukrainian servicemen.

You're completely delusional. Big PR win for Ukraine, celebrating freedom of Azov leaders

LOL. One day the “defenders” will be back in Poland and do to you what they did in WWII. Google for their boss Tyagnibok speech on Polish. Quite enlightening.
