My take on the merit badge is that the Boy Scouts are trying to placate the Wokesters without pissing off the Normals. They’re trying to thread the needle, and it’s clear that they are skittish about it.
their popcorn campaign is ridiculously expensive anyhow!!
I will donate a buck or 2 cause i have scouts still in my family.
My son was involved in Cub and Boy Scouts up until just last year.
We got out for the same reasons which this articles states.

Here's the best thing you can do with $100: Write a check for $50 (or give cash) directly to the troop as a donation. Buy a bag or two of popcorn from the grocery store for yourself. Keep $40 in your wallet.
You have just doubled the collection for the troop, saved the scoutmaster from the work of processing and delivering your order, and kept $40 that you could donate to Free Republic.
In my experience the kids earn about 25% profit or more on the products they sell ( yes the manufacturer gets paid) and that money is our budget for what they choose to do…camping being fairly inexpensive.
However In my experience charging $80 dues a kid wont cover badges, uniform items, or more than maybe a couple camping trips…and some kids just don’t have it. And we like to keep them busy on weekends,
So they learn that the more hours they work selling product, the more money they earn. Not a bad lesson, and a great equalizer.
I have GS and I’ve helped girls make enough money to travel to Europe Scout camps, and they all say the experience of working together was as much fun as the trip.

i have done that- just given the troop $$ instead of purchasing stuff at a booth.
I’m an Eagle Scout and have been in both worlds as a volunteer (Assistant Scoutmaster) and worked as a professional Scouter that got as high as Senior District Executive. If only the culture of professional Scouters would align with the Scout Oath and Law…
Whenever I see Boy Scouts selling stuff, I always buy something. I was in those shoes back in the day, and I make the kid sell it to me, in a playful way. To me, that’s the important part, kids learning how a sale works and doing your part in the transaction. In today’s world, there’s not enough interaction between adults and children, as far as learning how business works, and it’s a great opportunity with mom or dad to supervise.

The BSA now has very successful troops for girls that are in fact quite active. The girls like the real activities and out of doors

When I worked for the BSA, Trail’s End was owned by the same people that made Pop Weaver popcorn that’s sold in dollar stores. The councils I worked for usually negotiated a 45-25-30 split, the unit would get the 45%, the council would get 25%, and Weaver would get 30%. The local council CEOs (aka Scout Executives) theoretically would negotiate among several popcorn vendors, but they usually went with the vendor that provides the best winter golf junket to Arizona.
I’ll buy a couple of tins of the chocolate caramel popcorn from my old troop. It’s my tradition. I also write a check directly to the troop to help pay summer camp for a boy who needs it most.

Well, girls have been part of scouts for years as family members. They now have their own troops and are doing quite well.
They seem to have no problem with being members of a Boy Scouts of America Troop. They live in the present, not the archaic past
For youth, there is no better opportunity for learning many diverse skills and developing leadership skills.
yes that is true... but it is open to teaching methods that i do not think they see coming... and i plan to teach it as i said, identity is who you actually are... identify is not reality.

girl scouts were not teaching girls real world solutions, only activism and crafts. girl troops in the BSA will make them better leaders.
They sold their souls years ago. Let in homos, trannies, girls, and changed their name to “Scouting USA.” I feel bad for the individual boys hustling their over priced food but oh well. (When I was a boy scout we earned money by selling labor. We never sold the overpriced crap.)
