White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says we should listen to Native Americans when it comes to renaming sports teams. But if we did, we wouldn’t be renaming any of them.
President Joe Biden hosted the Atlanta Braves to celebrate their 2021 World Series championship while his administration scolded them for their name. When asked about the team name and the Braves' “tomahawk chop” celebration, Jean-Pierre said it’s “important” to have a conversation about renaming the team.
Biden “has consistently emphasized that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect,” Jean-Pierre said . “You hear that often from this president. The same is true here. And we should listen to Native American and indigenous people who are the most impacted by this.”
Of course, were that true, the Washington Redskins would never have had to change their name to something silly like the “Commanders.” The Washington Post found that 90% of Native Americans did not find the name offensive or think it a slur, even though woke (mostly white) journalists and academics claimed that it was. Just 9% of Native Americans were offended by the name.
But the Redskins were renamed anyway, thanks to media and corporate pressure. The Cleveland Indians preemptively renamed themselves to avoid all the bullying and pressure. And the Braves likely won’t be far behind, nor will the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Blackhawks, or Florida State Seminoles.

Why would they be offended? A brave was revered. Same with the name, Warrior. In the Indian culture, one had to EARN such titles.
The Atlanta Woke Wimps has a ring to it
Team is named after a white male. That could be all that is needed.
Cowboys is a horrible name. I know a lot of people who tell me they hate the Cowboys. Dallas Koalas would be much better. No one hates a Koala, though some Aussies might complain about cultural appropriation. But whatever you do someone will be offended and they are Aussies, so screw ‘em.
It looked like some dwarf looking dude with Spock ears the other night on Thursday night football At the 50 yard line big as a blimp hard to miss
They weren’t offended by the redskins or the indians either but the spineless scum who own them caved to the democrats.
As a Texan, I am offended by the play of the NFL Houston Texans. It’s very embarrassing!
If naming them is shaming them then call them...
The Atlanta Rebels!!
Cleveland abandoned Chief Wahoo because of protests led by one guy from the American Indian Movement and a bunch of idiot woke-women from the UCC headquarters down the street. Pathetic beyond belief.
“Got rid of the Indian but kept the land”
For liberals that’s progressive!
There he is!
Homosexuals are offended by the Packers. :-P
I went to Midland Lee
Robert E Lee Rebels
I am sure it is mutual.
Unlike you, I couldn't care less about people getting bent out of shape about it.
Perhaps not, but they should be sensitive to those who are offended on their behalf...
It use to be the Milwaukee Braves, and before that the Boston Braves - named after - what for it - the Brave “Indians” in the Boston tea party. Sorry, this is about patriotisms, not Indians.
