The US has said it "seems" Russia is to blame for this week's leaks in the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told the BBC an investigation was being carried out into the cause of what she called "an act of sabotage", adding "it is highly unlikely that these incidents are coincidence"
No evidence about how the leaks happened has been made public.
Russia has dismissed suggestions that it was to blame.
President Putin described the damage as "unprecedented sabotage, in fact, an act of international terrorism" during a phone call with Turkey's President Erdogan, according to the Kremlin, which added Russia plans to bring it up for "urgent discussion" at the UN Security Council.
Earlier Russia's Foreign Ministry suggest it was the US that stood to benefit from the pipeline being out of action because it would be able to increase its own natural gas sales.
Ms Granholm suggested the energy relationship between Russia and Europe was being consigned to history.
"I think Russia has proven itself to be an unreliable energy partner," she said.
"No country wants to take the risk of putting a significant amount of its energy demand to Russia's supply. I think this accelerates the EU's push to become energy independent through clean energy".
Wind, solar and nuclear energy are among the alternatives many countries are trying to increase as they also aim to meet the Paris climate change targets.

There is an old saying, “If the Feds want ya, they’ve got ya.” I suppose that applies internationally as well.
I don’t know who really sabotaged that pipeline. But if DC wants to blame Russia you can be sure a ton of “evidence” will soon be coming along to “prove” it.
As for me, I’m believing nobody. Not the US, not NATO, not Russia.
Why hasn’t it been suggested that DJTrump did this? C’mon, he told the Germans not to become dependent upon Russia gas. They laughed.

Here's a clue... Zelensky has yet to say anything. Probably realized it was a mistake...making the lines within his country targets.
Our attempts to blame the Russians for everything, including the Florida Hurricane (via global warming caused by their export of fossil fuels) would even make the worst of the Soviet Propagandists roll in their graves, and would be funny if it wasn’t leading to WW3.
In this case, Russia was doing JUST FINE by closing the upstream taps. Even Lyndon Larouche’s conspiracy theories look reasonable to the idea that Russia would blow up their own $10B pipelines just to ‘blame the West’, when the West would blame them anyway. Not to mention who had everything to gain from this (the Neocons).
The question becomes whether Germany finally gets FED UP with this crap and tells the Neocons to go to Africa or something if they want to continue starting wars and destroying countries.
Why?
To prevent Germany from making a peace deal with Russia to get the gas turned back on after their population starts freezing this winter.
Germany easing sanctions on Russia would crumble the NATO effort in Ukraine.
This is the only explanation that makes any sense. Russia blowing up their own pipeline when they control the spigot makes no sense no matter how people try to sell it, --particularly when they left the Norwegian pipeline that's right next to it alone.
Of course, Poland or even Ukraine may take responsibility but you can guarantee that the U.S. Navy played a substantial role in planning and execution.
And for the record, while I am currently serving in the Navy, this hypothesis is not based on any privileged information. It is 100% my opinion.
A military operation such as this would be so secretive that only the tiniest number of people involved would know about it, and I can assure you, I am not one of these people.

Uhmmm...our federal government has lost all credibility at this point.
There are no good guys in this fight.
I am thinking more and more that Germany was in on this, to what degree, yet to be determined, but I am thinking they knew this was going to go down as it did.
Therefore, not going to see Germany going apesh*t over it or get “fed up”. And why you won’t here Germany assert a breach of NATO Article 5.

Jennifer is programed to lie. The entire Biden administration is programed to lie. The USS Kearsarge was over the two leak locations for over two weeks until a few hours before the explosion. So, obviously the WH and the Biden administration is deflecting hard. Which means they did it. My beliefs? The CIA did it. And the CIA is trying to change world opinion to defend the next illegal action of the United States.
