Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says his country will file an expedited application to join NATO after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed treaties to annex parts of eastern Ukraine.
In a statement, Zelensky called Ukraine and NATO “de facto” allies and said his country would seek formal membership in the alliance.
“De facto, we have already proven interoperability with the Alliance’s standards, they are real for Ukraine — real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our interaction,” Zelensky said.
“Today, Ukraine is applying to make it de jure. Under a procedure consistent with our significance for the protection of our entire community. Under an accelerated procedure,” the statement continued.

And the left (and many “conservatives”) wonder what possible reason Russia could have to attack Ukraine.
He’s nervous about how much US money will have to go to Florida.
he blew up the pipelines. this is his solution.....because he made the lines inside of ukraine targets. da
Practically racing toward WWIII now...
Another loser country American tax payers will have to pay to defend. We should listen to George Washington’s farewell address .
“The Eastern World, it is explodin’...”
This will most certainly be rejected...after some lip service that makes the situation worse.
If NATO accepted the application would that not trigger Article 5?
Ukriane can't even be considered for membership until after hostilities end.
Zelenskyy is asking for fast-tracked NATO membership because he is panicking, not because NATO will actually admit Ukraine. He will do anything possible to drag the rest of the world into the war.
Vlad’s Annexation move may answered by NATO membership.
Such a deal, for only one more payment, NATO gets it's War With Russia!
Talk about poking the bear.
Even this incompetent administration couldn’t be that stupid.
Adding Ukraine to NATO would mean we would be in direct war with Russia, with all the disastrous consequences that would entail.
We’ve been at Defcon 3 for pretty much all year. Feels like Defcon 2 is about to happen.
It was not just Washington who warned us against foreign entanglements.
They all did.
BTW..they also warned against a standing army.

If accepted into NATO does that mean the rest of NATO would have to enter the war with troops?
Who knows if the article works retroactively.
But, it brings up a very good question, is the US ready to go to war with Russia to defend Ukraine?
The really strange thing about this whole thing is that Ukraine is really made up of a bunch of thugs, and always has been. They are people who don't get along with Poland, Hungary, Romania or Russia. They are violent, authoritarian and corrupt throughout their history. How we have ever gotten into a position where the progressives in America Stand for Ukraine is another example of how our partisan politics has completely warped our values. I don't support Russia much either, but in this particular conflict, our best course was to sit this one out.
Get used to this...we, you and I, and those who are against this intervention are the enemy according to many on this forum.
