I admire your optimism. Freepers using Primary Sources to form their own opinions - that is certainly what we hope would happen routinely.

Sadly, a lot of people here don't even read the short summary articles posted, much less listen to hour long speeches in Russian, with subtitiles.

And, seeing as they know *everything there is to know already*, why should they?

We only did Iraq, Afgan, Libya, Serbia, and another dozen “pre-emptive” invasions & bombardments over the past 20 years.

Right, we did it for conquest, because we ultimately tried to annex those countries.

Are you even American?

I get the distinct impression the answer is no.

Dude, maybe you should graduate 10th grade before trying to talk to adults.

The pipeline was a terrorist act. It will also result in many, many deaths this winter. By all circumstances, motives, and means it was perpetrated by western military.

What’s to stop the russkies from responding to blowing up their pipelines the same way the US responded to 9/11?

It won’t matter who you think is “right”. This isn’t a board game. There will be deaths, hundreds of thousands [if not millions], starvation, cities destroyed. Russia, from historical and present day events, had justification for their action - 8 years of civil war against their russian civilian brothers who found themselves on the Uke side of a border because of an unelected Kruschev and constant threats by NATO to move weapons and soldiers, yet again, closer to them AND in contradiction to their ‘promises’ at the end of the cold war. The russkies finally went in because the Ukes were moving in heavy weapons for a ‘final solution’. I hate it, but those are facts.

Russia has no say in how other nations conduct their
business. PERIOD!

If you don’t like when the U. S. goes into other nations,
then at last be consistent.

In the modern day times, nation’s don’t invade other nations,
partition them and take land, people, and their natural
resources. Russia just did.

You are quick to bring up what the U. S. has done, but
remind me again where the U. S. in recent times has gone
into a nation, occupied part of it, and declared that
territory to be our territory. When did we occupy and
annex oil and natural gas preserves?

We do less, and get far more guff from you guys than
Russia, who has done each of the things I mentioned.

And then as upset as your are about the U. S. having
done things you disagree with in the past, you are
very comfortable in backing Russia doing even more
than we did right now.

I’m going to listen to the speech and draw my own conclusions - not swallow the half truths, mischaracterizations and spin that constitutes the western media.

Exactly correct and why I say a done deal - not just that Putin has the four land areas but there’s no longer any pathway for the US /Russia relationship to ever turn around now. Putin has sailed that ship out of view entirely now....which is what the US has wanted just as they wanted the break in Europes and Russia to break - no turning back now Us took out Nordstream just as they said they would do.

And soon, in the Donetsk Oblast, those heavy weapons will be getting rubbed out as Bakhmut is cleared and the way to the Dnepr is opened.

The three letter agencies and their willing minions in the public pollute serious political discussions with ad hominem to derail us. Its a common tactic that I ignore but often see other Freepers engaging. Don’t waste your time.

Ah yes....Donetsk Oblast, Bakhmut, Dnepr...I remember all of those patriotic songs, lessons in elementary school, and holidays heralding our allies in Donetsk Oblast, Bakhmut, and Dnepr....

Pffft. None of us actual Americans have heard of, let alone visited, any of those places and don’t give one rat’s ass about them. These people have been slitting each others’ throats for centuries. And now our ‘leaders’ have thrown us into this blood feud.

Sometimes a country should be conquered. Many have, many still will. Its the way of mankind. Pretending the political and cultural boundaries of the world are and always shall remain static is ahistorical. Might as well believe men can give birth.

Yep, EXACTLY.

MY childhood songs and tales were about Dan'l Boone, Davy Crockett [King of the Wild Frontier!] and the Alamo.

Coincidentally, the latter was part of a border war where our country is ACTUALLY involved - to this day.

Not some back-of-East-Europe killing ground, where, as you said, people have been slitting each others’ throats for centuries.

Yes, conquering and occupying Russia may be the only way to stop it from being an imperialist, expansionist and aggressive state. It worked with Germany.

We'll invade with our X-boxes, and pummel them with our digital money.

Which a lot of evaporated today, BTW...

Russia is the country that defeated Germany. Believing that the russkies, a century and an arsenal of thousands of a-bombs later, could be conquered by Ukes is kinda like betting on your grandma in a fight against Mike Tyson. Go ahead and bet, lead with your heart - that’s fine. Not my money. But if you think any one with a functioning brain will follow you....well, you probably also buy lotto tickets.

The pipeline was a terrorist act. It will also result in many, many deaths this winter.

The second half of that is the sort of nonsense where you ignorant, misled people go off the rails. FACT: Both pipelines were offline already. Nordstream 2 never even went online to make significant deliveries. They were not going on or back on while Pooty stays in power, unless he made large concessions. The Euros have calculated they can get by this winter, albeit at a high economic cost. And if you do some research, you'll find that's what the fossil fuels energy industry thinks, too. Do you see predictions of thousands freezing in industry journals? No. Have you actually discussed the situation with real engineers in Europe? Uh-huh.

It won't be comfortable - thermostats set at 16 or 18 deg. C won't be pleasant for the Euros. But as recently as a few years ago, my brother spent 6+ months including a winter in China, and many Chinese in the cities live and work that way, or worse, every fall - spring. They get by.

Reserves, conservation, rolling blackouts, new and alternate sources, and some industry reductions CAN manage the situation in Europe.

The Euro's will be poorer for it, no doubt. A hit of -10% to GDP for 2023 in Britain and Germany is certainly possible. Britain should be able to frack and grow (if weakly) their way out of it by early 2025 if the Tories don't completely screw up. The Germans may take longer.

This is not to say there won't be other problems. For example, there is a mad scramble on to outfit Euro cell towers with longer backup power. Rolling loss of cell service will impinge emergency calls. Almost certainly that will cause lives to be lost, but, they'll be a drop in the bucket compared to a bad flu year. Those losses are still individual tragedies for sure(!), but not national catastrophes.

Russia had a LOT of help in WW2. And Ali couldn’t beat heavier punchers Frazier or Foreman in a toe to toe slugfest, either...

Ukraine doesn’t have to “conquer” Russia. Just wear it out, Afghan style. And Ukraine arguably has Evander Holyfield helping out, if you want to continue that silly analogy.

(BTW, Mike Tyson in 2022 can barely walk or hold onto a cookie.)
