One other thing.....NO Nation can obtain Nato membership in a time of conflict. A requirement they will not bend on.
Oh but the scene...out on the lonely street in Kiev with a tiny little desk stuck in the middle and two burly body guards (about a foot taller than the little guy) and he is projecting defiance as he signs (2 quick pen strokes—writing Volodymyr Zelensky must be shorter in Ukrainian...:-) his application which his betters dismissed out of hand with annoyance that he pulled that stunt to embarrass them.

The requirement a country cannot be in conflict when seeking to join NATO is obvious.
All NATO members would immediately be at war with the enemy of such a new member allowed to join while at war.
NATO members would be crazy to welcome a new member that drags them ALL immediately into war.
