DENVER (AP) — The Colorado baker who won a partial Supreme Court victory after refusing on religious grounds to make a gay couple’s wedding cake a decade ago is challenging a separate ruling he violated the state’s anti-discrimination law by refusing to make a cake celebrating a gender transition.
A lawyer for Jack Phillips on Wednesday urged Colorado’s appeals court — largely on procedural grounds — to overturn last year’s ruling in a lawsuit brought by a transgender woman.
The woman, Autumn Scardina, called Phillips’ suburban Denver cake shop in 2017 requesting a birthday cake that had blue frosting on the outside and was pink inside to celebrate her gender transition. At trial last year, Phillips, a Christian, testified he did not think someone could change genders and he would not celebrate “somebody who thinks that they can.”
Jake Warner, an attorney representing Phillips from the conservative Christian legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom, said the ruling was wrong. He said requiring Phillips to create a cake with a message contrary to his religious beliefs amounts to forcing him to say something he does not believe, violating his right to free speech.

Why not just say, “Oh hell no, freak. Find someone else to bake you a cake.”
He was called specifically so he could turn them down and thus be sued.

Lets see: SCOTUS essentially vindicated him on the same-sex wedding cake case.
So another morally-depraved soul decides to try to target him - and so far, the stupid folks in Colorado have bought in to taking this man’s rights away... again.

Autumn will never be a woman. Phillips being a Christian has nothing to do with the idea that people cannot change genders. It is simple reality, they just can’t.
Paint a rock the requested colors and say it’s a trans cake.
I wouldn’t waste my money fighting this like these bakers are doing. I would make the cake, but it would be the most dry tasteless concoction I could muster up... Those people will never come back!!
If someone didn’t want to make me a cake (or whatever kind of food) I sure wouldn’t want to force them to do it.
AMEN to that. If only we lived in a country with common sense where you could do that. I long to live in such a long-ago country. We are overrun by tyrannical idiots.
She was to evaluate and suggest logical steps to improve the situation. Roughly 30% of her clients welcomed the visit and 70% just put up with them as a condition to keep their government checks coming.
Black clients were particularly a problem because they didn't think my daughter could possibly understand their family problems due to race. She had a black co-worker who had precisely the same problem with some white clients.
So rather than squawk "DISCRIMINATION!", they regularly met to swap clients and files. Their bosses were smart enough to allow such swaps as a tool to get the job done.
If I were the baker, I would tell them, you must pay in advance for your transvestite cake. Then I would bake the cake for these head cases and do a bad job at it. If I am lucky, they will not want to pay in advance. They scoot.
Also I would hang a very visible sign in the bakery saying — “We require payment in advance. We reserve the right to waive this in special circumstances.”

Super kind and devoted man. You feel the power of his faith if you stop by. You don’t sense weakness. It’s a small hole in the wall shop, not some big business.

Correct. So why haven't conservatives done the same .... targeted a woke bakery and demanded a MAGA, white pride, or all lives matter cake?

“Yep. Back when my daughter first graduated from college and had her first job as a social worker, one of her jobs was to visit families of kids who were getting disability checks, usually over autism.”
I had a relative who was a child psychiatrist who had to evaluate black and minority kids for the Big City. (few white kids) He said most of the autism cases were really what used to be called retardation. The blacks mothers would hound him to get their child’s disability checks approved. It’s all a scam and reparations.
