Food stamp benefits are increasing by 12.5 percent as families grapple with grocery prices that have skyrocketed under President Joe Biden.
Under the maximum benefit, a family of four on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see their payments increase from $835 to $939 per month.

Behind the booze there was a 20 dollar package of beef, 2 packages of salmon, and a 10 dollar chicken breast. He paid for that with his link card.
I walked out of that store so pissed off.
Some votes are bought cheaper than others.
Notice the parasites get an inflation raise, while the rest of our wages can stay frozen for years and years...
Don’t be mad at him, be mad at the people responsible for setting it up that way.
That is the first program I would ABOLISH, then setup a soup kitchen on every corner that need it, here’s a Trash Bag, bring it back full and you get a bowl of soup and a piece of bread...
And mandatory number of volunteer hours at the soup kitchen, or no soup for them!
So if you are on food stamps, you can only buy rice, beans, vegetables, and Ramen, right? Anything more is an abuse, right?
How do you know the guy had not subsisted on the the diet above for weeks or months? And this was just a splurge, to feel more human.
Don’t knock it until you have been there and have no choice. It hurts, believe me.
Poor person: Yayyyyy. I’m rich.
Can we old guys on social security expect a 12.5% raise too?
I’m with you on that.
Tough to be poor freeper.
You’ll eat soup made from water and tree bark and like it.
I think the point was that he had enough cash for alcohol.

And how would they get there if they did not live in the city? IF they did not own a vehicle? Buses and shuttles run on a schedule which does not coincide necessarily with a person’s meal time. Are the suppose to walk miles in inclement weather, so you can feel good?
What about seniors, should they work until they drop on the job - even if they were not fired as an age liability?
You guys are so thoughtful about situations you’ve never been in - you make it sound like America is all about Money and nothing else.
What? We not gettin free money? No vote for you!
The food stamp program was put under the Agriculture Dept in 1964 rather than Health and Human Services to make sure the powerful Ag lobby would push the program. Dems were pretty savvy back then.
Long time gaming of the system only getting much worse now....
I know the place ain’t much but
I sure don’t pay no rent
I get the check the first of every month
From this big Federal Government
Course, every Wednesday, I get commodities
Why, sometimes, four or five sacks
Pick ‘em up down at the welfare office
Of course, driving that new Cadillac
Now, some folks say I’m crazy
Fact, I’ve even been called a fool
But my kids get free books and
All them there free lunches down at school
We get peanut butter and cheese
And man, they give us flour by the sack
Course, the welfare checks make the payments on this new Cadillac
But you know the way that I really get it
These other folks are the fools
They’re all out there just working and paying taxes
Sending my youngins through school
Salvation Army cuts our hair and
Gives us the clothes we wear on our back
So we can dress up and ride around
Show off that new Cadillac
But you know, things gon’ get better yet, at
Least that’s what I understand
Now they tell me this new President just put in a heck of a new poverty plan
Now they say, he gon’ send us poor folks money
Men, we gonna get it down here in stacks
Fact is, my wife’s shopping ‘round right now for her new Cadillac

So what? Is he not entitled to have a drink? You need to really get a grip on reality in today’s USA, which is not your father’s or your grandfather’s USA.
That works out at a little over $200/week to feed a family of 4. Or $31 per day.
You can feed a family QUITE well on that, if you buy raw food and cook it instead of microwave meals.
Meanwhile those of us who dedicated our lives to keeping our fellow citizens secure get a 2.5% COLA. How are we supposed to keep afloat while we make 10% less every year?
