I guess now would be the time to apply, then? I have no income. I’m living off ‘the largess’ of a friend. My SS doesn’t kick in for another few months.
I’m probably eligible! I should go on for a while and use the cash to over-stock my Prepper Pantry. ;)
From the Forbes article
https://www.forbes.com/advisor/personal-finance/snap-benefits-increase-2023/
Single person allocation is $281/month, for a family of 4 it’s $939. I multiplied by 12 then divided by 52 to get weekly numbers.
For the single person case that’s $65 per week.
At my local supermarket, boneless chicken breast is $2.49/lbs, thighs and drumsticks are $.99
Pasta is $1/pound, 2 pound bag of rice is $4.39
For $50 I can get myself some chicken, rice, and pasta and eat for the week and have enough left for a nice steak.
Splurging is not illegal. Self-respect and pride is not mandatory.
Some have it. Some don’t.
How about YOU open up your damned wallet and buy his booze then? Don’t expect the rest of us to do it. Jackass.
I’m a very small woman, weigh 112, only eat twice a day. My groceries cost almost three times more today then before the scamdemic. So this is one fed program I don’t despise. Imagine workers who were out of work for a couple of years trying to feed their families. I’m sure many are good people trying to do their best.
Remember we sent BILLIONS to Ukraine. And US citizens get zilch?
He can’t hold a job but can game the system to pay cash for his liquor so he can soak the taxpayer for the steaks and whatnot?
Give me a break. I think you’re on the wrong forum.

I have run those numbers for some years, go into my local supermarket, Walmart is 2nd. Yes there are a lot of beans, rice and pasta in the mix but again you can eat quite well with those dollars. Learn how to eat the cheapest chicken, “hot dogs”, cheap ham (pork in any form). Now go get the cheap cabbage, frozen green beans etc. your have a cheap meal.
No, I’m not anti-capitalism, but I am opposed to economic policies that we have adopted that keep inflation constantly trending upwards over the long term, while average wages remain stagnant. That’s not really a good formula for long nations in the long run.
I agree. I have seen those that abuse the system and I have seen those who truly know that without the help, their family goes hungry. The big problem is that the government has fostered, and provided the ‘loop holes’, so that many, many people easily qualify for free stuff. It’s all based upon race with the government. This I know first hand.
Exactly, people are going to look out for their self-interest and follow that. It is the system that needs to be changed.
My Social Security...that I contributed to for 50+ years...went up something like 4.5% this year. And yet welfare parasites get 12.5%.
Oh. When I was on short term disability in CA I just had a Bank of America card with a photo of Yosemite that looked like a regular credit card. I think it was a VISA card.
Well I guess the market is bearing the stagnant wages or they’d be going up.
I’m a cashier at Winn-Dixie. And it’s incredible the amount of money they get to buy food. I wish I could get it. I really don’t, I’m glad I don’t, but it pisses me off too.
You’ll get a raise to. Probably up to 200. They are not just raising the top level.
You’ll probably get 75 a week with the raise. It’s going to all recipients.
I know a couple who are on food stamps. They both work full-time but they have five children. Florida wages are horrible so they probably get 11 bucks an hour each which is why they get the food stamps.
I think at this point you can 8.6% increase in Social Security. Of course Medicare has to take their percent. If Medicare would just say zero and you keep the 8.6% that’s a pretty healthy increase. But of course They won’t do that.
My SS got a 5% bump this year which put me in a higher tax bracket so I got an extra $20 a month. I’m old enough to remember when SS was tax exempt.
Heck I’m old enough to remember when there wasn’t a sales tax.
When I was down and out I got a job, any job. I’ve washed dishes, fry cooked, dug ditches, wiped peoples butts, worked with dangerous radioactive materials and on assembly lines. There is always work for the willing.
