But this is serious stuff. Polk County FL’s main difficulty is not violent crime, though it happens here of course, but widespread substance abuse. The major industries that used to hire strong-back-weak-mind people (phosphate mining, orange groves and production) have mostly gone out of business; most of the mines have closed, and most of the groves have become suburbs-of-Disney.
The result is a plurality of the population who are incapable of jobs-requiring-thinking and who can’t find laborer work, filling their time with booze, weed, or meth—comprised of people of all races, evidence of the Bell Curve at work. Other than getting religion, there isn’t much that can be done. But the usual suspects (BLM, Antifa) only exist on the college campuses, and don’t have the foolhardiness to go looting.
To be fair, Polk County deputies spent much of the last week in Lee County with Ian; we had our own hurricane area, primarily in the south of the county, which is practically all rural, so Lee County needed them more, and there unfortunately they were finding looters.
We love Florida’s Natural Orange Juice. It is a citrus co-op based in Lake Wales, but on their package, they say now the OJ production has decreased by 75%, and they import juice for their juice. Polk County is warehouse county. Centrally located in Florida. Farmland/ pastureland now warehouses or homes. Still rural in southern Polk (south of State route 60), northern Polk (Lake Wales, Winter Haven, Lakeland, Bartow and Haines City) is part of the Disney/Orlando - Tampa (I-4) corridor.)
every street in florida seem to have landscapers mowing away. Surely they can work in those areas instead of importing help?
