I wrote over fifty articles for the local paper. I wasn’t allowed to make any definitive statement as truth, despite the fact I was a subject matter expert. I had to either quote someone else, or I had to put in a caveat such as “what many have argued.” I wasn’t sure of the reasoning, but I suspect that the paper was afraid of being sued if someone writing for it made a definitive statement and that turned out not to be 100 percent accurate. (They were total cowards.)
