If you try to force Ukraine to accept a diplomatic solution not of their making, you will be messaging to Putin or his successor to do this again, and wave around his nuclear arsenal until the International Community forces another half-loaf settlement on whoever will be succeeding Zelensky, who might be a Russian hireling like Yanukovich was, or just a spineless wimp who will cave.
