I love garter snakes. I had one of these in my yard. I wish I had picked him up and kept him for a pet. He got run over.

Could be. I had a Lady Friend in Arkansas that had a similar rig but only one blade that I dubbed the "Pig Sticker" the first time I found it was interesting... It looked very similar to this:
