Not a great quote, as it was used to deflect from the truth about communist influences in the United States. A classic non-answer used to inflame people’s emotions to hide the truth. Right up there with Scoldilocks “How dare you?”

I cited the quote, not its context.

Besides being a lawyer, Welch was also an actor (for real). Thus, he played to the audience; it was pure theater and no substance.
