Inside NYC’s migrant tent city: 3 meals, fluff-and-fold laundry, TV and even Xbox

The city unveiled Mayor Eric Adams’ controversial tent city on Tuesday — detailing how migrants staying there will be given three meals a day, fluff-and-fold laundry service and an array of entertainment including TV and video games.

“This is a place people can come, rest, relax and kick their feet up after the journey they have been on,” Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol told reporters at the facility on Randall’s Island.

An initial wave of 500 single men is slated to start moving in on Wednesday after arriving from Texas at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan.

But while Iscol called it “a short-term solution for people to figure out what their next destination will be,” officials acknowledged that no one would get kicked out for staying beyond a goal of just four days.

“Our focus is to get you where you want to go and not put a numerical limit in terms of number of hours to restrict anything,” Dr. Ted Long, a senior vice president at NYC Health + Hospitals, said in response to a question from The Post.

Adams has said previously said that no deadline would be imposed in part because the city is struggling with a shortage of shelter space due to the ongoing flood of migrants, which reached 20,500 arrivals on Sunday.

Some aspects of the set-up seem designed to encourage long-term occupancy, including the rotating menu of grub cooked on-site in a fully equipped commercial kitchen.

“Those meals are all culturally appropriate. It is South American fare,” Iscol said.

“The folks have already been providing food, which is great. Crews, including myself, have been eating it for the past couple of weeks.”

In addition, snacks will be provided and coffee, tea and water will be available around the clock.

But while Iscol called it “a short-term solution for people to figure out what their next destination will be,”

That IS their destination. Subsidized indolence and vagrancy. Expect many more deadbeats to show up.

Texas and AZ should go full Arpaio so the migrants truly migrate to where life is easy like NY.

1930s. Okies was a name for all unemployed people leaving for mostly California to find a way to survive.
Wikipedia says:
Once the Okie families migrated from Oklahoma to California, they often were forced to work on large farms to support their families.

Because of the minimal pay, these families were often forced to live on the outskirts of these farms in shanty houses they built themselves. These homes were normally set up in groups called Squatter Camps or Shanty Towns, which were often located near the irrigation ditches which ran along the outskirts of these farms.

Indoor plumbing was inaccessible to these migrant workers, and so they were forced to resort to using outhouses. Unfortunately, because of the minimal space allotted to the migrant workers, their outhouses were normally located near the irrigation ditches, and some waste would inevitably runoff into the water. These irrigation ditches provided the Okie families with a water supply. Due to this lack of sanitation in these camps, disease ran rampant among the migrant workers and their families.

Also contributing to disease was the fact that these Shanty Town homes that the Okie migrant workers lived in had no running water, and because of their minimal pay medical attention was out of the question.

What did the Okies eat?
Chicken-fried steak, barbecue pork, fried okra, squash, blackeyed peas, cornbread, biscuits, sausage gravy, grits, corn, strawberries and pecan pie. Tulsa World, Jan 28, 2007

I’m thinking about flying down to Mexico and walking across the border back in, speaking no English. I can probably pass as Ukrainian. Free food, housing, and medical for the rest of my life. And probably an outrageous amount of walking around money.

I read that people that spend a lot of time playing video games are dropping dead . . . could that be the secret nefarious plan of Chief of Police Gordon of Gotham City? Excellant!
