The title of her latest book, Communists in Closets: Queering the History 1930s-1990s, might make you think of academia, too, and its focus on institutional analysis and the surveying of eras.

Her old man, Herbert Aptheker, was a Columbia professor and major functionary of the American Communist Party. She wrote a book in 2007 that her commie daddy molested her for 10 years from age 3 to 13. It didn’t keep her from becoming a commie too.
Those are infamous academics.
Her father Herbert was the theoreticians of the Soviet controlled, financed, and established CPUSA. She was their campus communist face.
