Hydrologic studies have concluded that the low water level in the Colorado River is due almost entirely to massive drawdowns for irrigation. Same for the rivers feeding the shrinking Great Salt Lake.. Some modest elevation of water loss through evaporation into drier than normal skies which by itself would be no problem.
Add-in the facts that they’ve torn down scores of dams for fresh water, and bypassed the Central Valley farmers, letting the water drain into the ocean.
Or the illegal cartel grow operations. Draining ponds and drawing down streams. Not to mention environmental damage and human trafficking in those operations. 10 to 15000 plants suck up a lot of water.
