Justice Barrett rejects appeal over Biden student debt plan

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett on Thursday rejected an appeal from a Wisconsin taxpayers group seeking to stop the Biden administration’s student debt cancellation program.

Barrett did not comment in turning away the appeal from the Brown County Taxpayers Association, which also has lost rounds in lower federal courts. The group wrote in its Supreme Court filing that it needed an emergency order to put the program on hold because the administration could begin canceling outstanding student debt as soon as Sunday.

Barrett oversees emergency appeals from Wisconsin and neighboring states. She acted on her own, without involving the rest of the court.

U.S. District Judge William Griesbach had earlier dismissed the group’s lawsuit, finding they didn’t have the legal right, or standing, to bring the case. A panel of appellate judges refused to step in with an emergency order.

I guess taxpayers don’t have standing when the RAT bastards in the swamp are using OUR money to pay the bills of deadbeat college Snowflakes who have dedicated their lives to biking, hiking and fixating on late night TV moron talk shows while drunk or high on drugs.

Right, why would expect the SC to stop a violation of the law

I guess the next Republican president should just give every registered Republican a million dollars.

I mean... no one is hurt by that, no one would have standing, and now there is a president for the President to just hand out billions with no approval from congress necessary.

Okay, so it seems she must have agreed with the DC’s court judge finding that they didn’t have standing?

Why didn’t they have standing, and who would have standing?

There is a separate suit by 6 states trying to stop the student loan forgiveness.

Are there NO LAWYERS on the right who can actually figure out who has standing?

Is Congress not able to bring suit against the Executive for infringement of its constitutional power of the purse? The Republican Caucus unable to bring suit?

It was a ruling on a procedural issue, not on the merits.

I may be a minority opinion here, but maybe there was sound legal reasoning involved in her making the decision that she did.

I have not read her opinion and may not understand all of the legal issues involved.

But just in general , I think it’s extremely unusual for the Supreme Court to issue an emergency order, on something that has not gone through the lower courts previously.

Congress could, but they controlled by democrats.

The minority caucus could but they too are controlled by democrats.

Apparently taxpayer associations don’t have standing.

But the 6 states that are suing, I would think would have standing.

standing is a dodge

ie we do not want to hear the case regardless of merits

no one will rule until after the election

judicial election interference

If Trump did this on the eve of an Election,

Tell me what Kagan, Sotomayor, and Roberts would do.

C’mon, Amy! Even Nancy Pelosi said that the president lacks the power to cancel debts, and that is exactly what Biden is doing. At the very least this is “reviewable”.
