Pictures appear to show Arizona GOP candidate in blackface and brownface

A Republican running for a seat in the Arizona Legislature is facing criticism after two pictures that appeared to show her in blackface and brownface surfaced with just a few weeks to go before the midterm elections.

The two photographs released on social media are believed to show Mary Ann Mendoza, a Republican, dressed in an "Aunt Jemima" costume with blackface and dressed as the Native American figure Pocahontas with her face painted brown.

The Washington Examiner has not been able to verify the photos independently, but Mendoza's political opponents have already used them to paint Mendoza as a racist.

Democratic candidate Lorena Austin said in a statement that the "hate-filled" pictures should disqualify Mendoza from running.

"Frankly, it's racist rhetoric that is very harmful to communities that reside right here in Mesa," she said.

So?

Me thinks they doth protest too much.

It was a common practice back when I was young. It wasn’t about racism.

Anybody see the “minstrel show” dance in the movie, “white Christmas”? Was that racist?

Doesn’t matter for Trudeau or Northam. What’s the problem here?

“Mendoza” is she Native American? So..... but the Aunt Jemima is what perhaps 10 million Americans are guilty of throughout the last 80 years. Shall we put them all to death over it?

She was dressed up as Elizabeth Warren, not Pocahontas!

This kind of thing only matters if you're a republican.

Just ask the former Democrat governor of VA, who suffered no penalty whatsoever for appearing in blackface in a yearbook alongside a person (who many say was his wife) in a klansman white sheet.

Mendoza isn’t a Honky surname, so she’s good.

Yes, people spend time and money to dress up as things they hate all the time. In fact the word “costume” actually means “let me show the racism in my heart.”

Makes perfect sense.

It used to be legal to dress up as someone else, something else.
Trannies do it all the time and are encouraged to do so.
But now certain costumes are bad and can get you canceled decades later.

If Americans had any sense, we’d be doing the same thing the commie RATS are doing. Start using our phones and the internet searching for any snippet of a scandal for EVERY REPUBLICAN running for office. Even if untrue. Just something to smear our RAT political enemies with. It doesn’t need to be true. Just titillating enough to get the “media” excited enough to have an orgasm.

Don’t know and don’t care if the pictures are of Mendoza or not, but how can a picture of someone dressed as Aunt Jemima or Pocahontas be ‘hate filled?’

I had a 7th-grade girl dress up as me for our school’s Halloween parade. Stripped shirt, pens in my shirt pocket, khaki pants, and she made her hair look like mine-grey and kind of puffy. Sorry, but I didn’t see any hate there at all.

At least she dressed as Aunt Jemima, and not erased her legacy only replace it with “Pearl Milling Company” during black history month.

Lighten up, Lorena.

Oh no! I must be a racist, too!
