You hired them.

You didn’t fire them.

You, Mr. Corporations, are to blame.

“You hired them. You didn’t fire them. You, Mr. Corporations, are to blame.”

Have you ever tried to fire anybody in Corporate America?

It’s damn near impossible! There are so many rules and regulations regarding the act of firing somebody that it’s a litigious nightmare. If all the p’s and q’s, paperwork, observations and all the other errata required by government rules and regs... you get my point.

That said, I have it on good authority that the only time or one of the only times businesses can successfully get rid of the chaff is during economic downturns or inflationary periods, then for the good of the entity you can pink slip anyone you want to.

Business owners will take advantage of this which means that if you are a performer, you show up for work, you do your work, and your work is done well, you are probably not going to get pink slipped.

It’s those marginal employees who spend 40 hours a year on the toilet and on their cell phones and at the loading dock smoking area and have been migrating in and out of the lunchroom for years... MAYBE getting 2 hours of work done per workday ... in theory and for the most part in practice... they’re the ones that get pink slipped.

The economic times that we are currently in is the perfect time to pink slip employees - EXCEPT half the employees haven’t even gone back to work yet which might reduce the amount of pink slips needed but it’s hard to tell. HRM in concert with the executive should be licking their chops at the release of all that dead weight.

It remains to be seen if the firing of slackers becomes trendy when the current economic trends level the HRM playing field.

Spot on observation is part of the job.
